Chapter 9 Owe

Yeah, it was true that I was the one who nudged Salvatore to get close to that rich woman.

However, the bigger problem was that he just did not have the skills to make anything of it.

This time, Salvatore really broke down.

His eyes were bloodshot when he came to me, asking what he had to do for me to let him go.

I crossed my arms and looked at him the same way he used to ignore me-cold and distant, like I was not even worth a glance.

Then I brought him to my dad’s grave.

“Salvatore, if you really feel sorry, kneel in front of my father and say you are sorry 999 times.

“Don’t forget, I had the patience to bid 999 times for 999 graves.”

Salvatore cursed at me and tried to storm off, but he had nowhere left to go.

I had already destroyed his company and tricked him out of everything he had.

The once powerful, untouchable Salvatore had nothing now. No one respected him anymore.

And so, he knelt down.

–

Again and again, he said sorry at my father’s grave.

I stood there, just watching. And honestly, it felt empty.

For so many years, I had loved him. Even when he ignored me and chose Gabi over and over again, I stayed by his side, hoping one day he would turn around and finally see me.

I used to dream of growing old with him.

However, he crossed a line that day when he scattered my dad’s ashes on Father’s Day.

He deserved everything that came after.

I did not stop him. I watched him apologize again and again, and I did not feel an ounce of pity.

Halfway through, his voice turned hoarse, and he got so exhausted that he passed out.

I did not take him to the hospital. Instead, I sat there in the pouring rain and waited for him to wake up.

When he finally stirred, it was from the cold rain on his face.

Owe

I stood over him, holding an umbrella, grabbed his chin, and forced him to look at me. “Does it hurt?” I asked.
