My face went pale, and I could not help but remind Salvatore.

“Salvatore, why? I’m your wife.” Why would he help Gabi punish me?

Salvatore gave a cold smirk. “You do know you’re just a wife.”

I staggered back, stunned.

I should have seen it coming that Salvatore would always side with Gabi. He did not care if I was hurt or even alive.

I still remember the car crash. I needed his signature for surgery, but he was at the bar, picking up Gabi.

When I called, he snapped, “Giulia, Gabi needs me. It’s just a minor surgery-don’t bother me unless you’re dying.”

In six years of marriage, I cried, and I threw tantrums.

However, afterward, he would always pull me close and say, “Giulia, I’ll protect Gabi. But you’ll always be

That one line kept me going for six years.

Yet, in the end, all I got was him digging up my father’s ashes on Father’s Day.

Maybe in his eyes, I was always worthless, someone never worth protecting.

The bodyguards started digging.

I ran to stop them, but Salvatore gestured for them to restrain me.

When I saw the urn in the bodyguard’s hands, my breath caught.

Gabi clung to Salvatore’s arm. “Salvatore, burn it. What if the negative energy harms me?”

Salvatore nodded calmly. He always spoiled her.

The brazier sat right by his feet.

Immediately, my father’s kind face flashed in my mind.

He used to pat my head when he spoke to me.

wife.”

“Giulia, you’re the best. I may not be around much longer, but promise me no matter who you marry, never lose your-

self.”

My heart shattered.

I dropped to my knees and begged, “No! Please, Salvatore, don’t do this!”

Salvatore frowned and looked at me like I was a joke.

“Giulia, you upset Gabi. You should apologize to her.”

Gabi stood next to him with a smug smile on her face.

Suddenly, I remembered something Gabi once told me.

She said, “Salvatore has no heart. He treats me like I’m his own. So, no matter what happens, he’ll protect me, not you.”

Back then, I did not get it.

I stupidly believed that time could change Salvatore.

Yet, it did not. In six whole years, he barely ever smiled at me, let alone stood up for me.

He saw Gabi as Mrs. Aiello.

And I was just some outsider.

With Salvatore’s cold stare on me, I quietly looked at the urn in his hands.

I did not even know if this urn-so familiar and yet so strange-held my father’s ashes.

Tears ran down my face.

Clenching my teeth, I got on my knees before Gabi.

Then, I started begging while staring straight at Salvatore. I asked him, word by word, “Is this enough?”

When I realized the urn did not hold my father’s ashes, I finally let out a breath. However, when the cold wind hit me, I noticed my back was soaked with sweat.

I collapsed to the ground.

Salvatore’s expression softened, and he walked over like he wanted to help me up.

Yet, I pulled away.

He did not care, though, so he gently rubbed my back and tried to comfort me. “Giulia, Gabi was upset. I was just playing along to make her feel better. You don’t have to take it so seriously.”

My father’s ashes were used as a bet, and yet, was it just a game to Salvatore?

I shook my head and asked just one question.

“Are my father’s ashes really in there?”

Salvatore stayed quiet for a few seconds, then nodded and said yes.

That was all I needed to hear.

Chapter 2 Indulgence

My throat tightened as I stepped back, putting space between us.

My voice was soft and full of pain. “Go on.”
