Chapter 5

I never expected to run into Blake on my way out. Thank God the car window was barely cracked. I quickly rolled it all the

way up.

Seeing Blake’s name flashing on my screen, I didn’t answer. Instead, I cracked the window just enough to toss my phone out.

Going into the research facility meant no communication devices anyway.

At the airport, I met up with my colleagues and we boarded the plane to the facility.

Meanwhile, Blake stared at his unanswered call, trying to convince himself it was too early-she was just sleeping, that’s why she wasn’t picking up. The eyes he’d seen were just someone who looked like her.

Sloane noticed his anxious state and felt a stab of jealousy.

Today was supposed to be THEIR wedding day, but his mind was still on me.

But remembering the text she’d gotten this morning made her mood brighten instantly.

Looked like I really was smart enough to know when I was beat. She’d be the legitimate Mrs. Donnelly soon enough.

Halfway through the ceremony, the house staff called Blake.

His mind kept flashing back to those eyes from this morning, and he instinctively reached for his phone.

But Sloane wasn’t about to let him get distracted during their wedding.

She grabbed his hand, looking at him with puppy dog eyes.

“Blake, the ceremony isn’t over yet. I think our baby wants to see mommy and daddy finish getting married, don’t you?”

Thinking about the baby, Blake pulled his hand back.

Only after the ceremony ended did he finally call the staff back.

The second he picked up, panic hit him through the phone.

“Sir, something’s wrong! Mrs. Donnelly is GONE!”

Blake’s face darkened as he snapped back instinctively.

“What the hell do you mean she’s gone?! She probably just went out somewhere-don’t talk crazy!”

The staff member sounded like they were about to cry.

“Ma’am gave us two days off, so we just got back this morning.”

“When we got to the house, all the photos of you and Mrs. Donnelly were gone, plus all her clothes-and she’s nowhere to be found. We tried calling but she’s not picking up.”

Blake’s expression changed completely as he strode toward the exit.

“Keep looking! I’m coming home NOW!”

Sloane was having the photographer take solo shots when she saw Blake about to leave and quickly blocked him.

“Blake, we haven’t done our photos yet! Where are you going?”

Blake was way too panicked to care about Sloane right now.

“Screw the photos! Get out of my way-Meredith’s missing and I need to find her!”
