Chapter 24

“Shit!” I exclaimed, fear and panic enveloping me. “Please do something!” I begged Theodora who had ran into her room immediately she took her off my

hand.

“Bring her in here! Quickly!”

I carried her up again and I carefully passed through the small door and lay her on the bed that I had woken up on the other day.

It seemed so far away now and I was now the one trying to keep somebody else alive in this hellhole.

“Stretch your hand,” she commanded me and even though I was confused, I gave it to her.

She plunged a needle into my arm and did the same to Dorita, whose breaths were far and in between now.

I wanted to ask her if this was worth the risk because if our blood didn’t match, she’d definitely die, and I’d now be responsible for that,, but I couldn’t start asking for a pen right now.

Once again, I mourned the loss of my voice, my freedom, and my innocence.

I shouldn’t be here, trying to save a girl halfway through knowing fully well that if she survives today, she may not make it tomorrow.

That knowledge frightened me so much. If the rules weren’t so rigid, I would have loved to be friends with her, but deep down, I knew it was a risk that would hurt me deeply.

Every one of us here was living at the edge of a knife; it takes just one angry vampire for one to lose their life.

I had a higher chance of survival but she, although she looked strong and courageous, was more likely to get killed.

So I guess it was best they kept me away from every form of bonding in this place.

I looked over at her, looking to see if there were any reactions.

My training as a nurse kicked in by default, and with my heightened senses, I figured out the blood was being received well by her body, but her heart wasn’t beating very well.

I looked at Theodora who was putting back her first aid materials back in the box.

Ldidn’t know how to tell her the girl needed CPR.

“Grr,” I tried speaking, my throat scraping against bones and I swallowed blood.

But she turned around immediately and I used my free hand to demonstrate what I needed her to do.

“Oh, she needs CPR!” Theodora caught on after I’d nearly made myself pass out from pressing my chest.

I nodded enthusiastically, glad she could understand what I wanted.

She ran to Dorita’s chest and began doing the compressions while I counted with my fingers and watched her closely.

After the third time, her heart kicked in, taking over and pumping again.

So I tapped her to stop, seeing as the girl had begun breathing properly again.

“Wow!” She exclaimed, seeing the effects of her hard work. “You’re a doctor?”

I shook my head, mouthing nurse’ instead.

“Oh, that makes sense. I was scared her blood wouldn’t match with yours since you’re a different species but I had to try,” she told me, making me smile.

But then I realized she must have had to do this a lot.

Bond with girls and have their dead bodies carried past her kitchen to the incinerator.

These beasts were heartless and made everyone else suffer for it.

1 instinctively held her hand, feeling all the pains she’d gone through all her years down here.

She wasn’t really a prisoner like the rest of us but I assume she would die here like the rest of us. Her soul was already buried in here with all the deaths she’d had to see and mourn.

Some were definitely in here as she tried to save them.

I knew because I could see snippets of her memories as she cried into my hand where I held her on the bed.
