Chapter 23
The room erupted in wild cheers and the curtains opened, releasing about fifty human girls into the room.
If they weren’t savage animals, they would have used the syringe and cups laid out for them, but instead, they all pounced on those girls, sinking their fangs into hands, necks, and, for some crazy reason, lips.
Their screams filled the room, and I stood there, watching the horror unfold while their leaders, the King and Prince Lucien, watched on, not caring about their actions.
I was disgusted and distraught but then, what I hated most was how helpless I felt in the situation.
Even if I had my wolf, she wasn’t that good of a fighter anyway, and faced with over five hundred old vampires, that would be a suicide mission.
I nearly jumped out of my skin when a girl was tossed to a chair on the last seat and I could see her soul literally leaving her body.
Without thinking, as usual, because I seemed to have a death wish, I ran into a frenzy of newly fed vampires and carried her.
The growls that trailed my presence in the room made my skin crawl and fear filled me up.
“Sorry,” I mouthed in fear as they began to snarl at me, their fangs bloody.
I ran towards the exit, but not before catching the eye of the Prince, and to my shock, he had his fangs sunk into somebody’s arm.
I nearly threw up right there and then but I could feel her pulse slowing down as I ran towards the kitchen.
I didn’t even know who I was carrying and I couldn’t for the life of me explain to myself what difference it would make to save just one girl just for her to probably get killed the next time they had a party.
But I wanted to do something or I’d go crazy.
Or maybe I already was, I just didn’t want to admit it.
But it was obvious, this place was hell and I needed to get out.
I always just said I would find a way to leave but now I needed to do more than dream about the world outside of here, the greenery, the normalcy of human existence.
Now I needed to find an exit plan and actually go ahead and run.
It wouldn’t be easy, though; this was one of the most guarded places on the whole planet.
And just as I assumed, a guard stopped me as I descended downstairs.
“And where do you think you’re going? The party’s not over and you’re supposed to be working,” he said, blocking my kaths. “You lazy mutt, you’re running off to go sleep, right? Using a dead body as an excuse?”
“She’s not dead,” I mouthed to him, the possibility of my failure scaring me so deeply that I didn’t care what pain it caused me to speak.
“Yes, but she will be. Just give her a few more minutes and with the way you’re ”
“Denny let the girl through. We’re not getting any more humans for another year; no need to waste the ones that survived the party,” a familiar voice spoke
up from down the stairs.
“Fine smarty-pants,” Denny grumbled and stepped aside for me to run down.

I ran past him, noticing that the voice belonged to the guard who had helped me the other day.
“Thank you so much,” I mouthed as I ran down to the final step, rushing towards Theodora.
She saved me before, I’m sure she’ll be able to save the girl.
I ran into the kitchen, and immediately, Theodora saw me; she dropped the knife, not caring that it clanged to the floor.
She rushed and took the girl out of my hands, and that was when I finally got a good look at her.
“Dorita?”
