Chapter 19
The palace usually woke up by 5PM but this time around, by 3:45pm, I was already hearing the buzz from servants and blood slaves all the way down the
hall.
I was tempted to go see what the fuss was about but I decided to rest a bit more. The previous day was a tough one for me; in fact, the entire week had been a rollercoaster, and I’ll take every chance at normalcy that I could get.
But the universe didn’t think I deserved that because as I adjusted my pillow, trying to drown out the noise and sleep again, I heard a knock on my door.
Weird since the Mistress always just opened it, not caring if I was even naked or something.
I got up and went to open the door. But then I paused, remembering that enforcer’s promise to kill me earlier.
Obviously, the Prince wouldn’t kill or punish his own enforcer for a wolf servant and in the grand scheme of things, he never got to fulfill his threats.
It was dumb of me to have just gone to bed last night, leaving the door unlocked and just sleeping off.
I could have woken up in the dungeon again or, worse, back in his room, but this time with duct tape around my hands and mouth.
As I hesitated to open the door to the potential threat, I heard the knock again, more persistent than before.
I remembered the other day, that girl told me people were not allowed to be out at the same time as me for whatever reason so who would be here?
“Who’s that?” I asked, holding the handle of the door and ready to fight as much as possible to keep it locked.
“It’s me, Theodora sent me to give you something. Open the door quickly; I need to be out of here,” a familiar voice responded, making me sigh in relief, and I opened the door.
I saw the same girl and she was holding a small tray in her hand.
“Hi,” I waved at her, feeling shy all of a sudden.
She stormed past me and went to drop the tray on the small table by the tiny window in my room.
“You are probably going to be working like crazy today since you’re the only werewolf in the entire staff so she thought to give you something for energy,” she offered by way of an explanation.
“Oh goddess, that’s so kind of her,” I gushed, overwhelmed by emotion. The idea of someone else thinking about my well-being was just so unusual.
“Yea. Hide the dishes under your bed and put some strands of your hair on it. You can return it in the morning tomorrow,” she instructed me and began walking towards the door.
“Wait!” I stopped her. “What’s your name?”
“Dorita,” she replied and walked out quickly and ran towards her own room.
It felt nice to actually talk to someone who wasn’t yelling at me for once, I was tired of it. Also, she’s giving me the vibe that she’s taking a risk by doing this for me and I couldn’t help but smile at this.
I walked back to the tray and opened it.
It was porridge and a side of ribs with a slice of cake, the scent made my mouth water.
Immediately I dove in, eating every last drop with glee.

Chapter 19
1 drank water and went to grab a comb. I washed out the plate and combed out my hair and placed the ones that were shredded on the plate, keeping it under my bed.
1 remembered the Prince’s observation about my hair, and it brought back insecurities I’d buried because, well, I was dealing with bigger things than what I looked like.
I used to think of myself as being beautiful, but since I met Julian, my spark died,d, and my skin grew duller even before my wolf left.
