Chapter 11

VIOLET’S POV

Everything hurts.

My ankles, neck, fingers, stomach, it all hurt.

And for the first time, I wished I could just faint instead of being forced to endure this pain while still working.

When I walked into the ballroom, I was immediately given jobs to do. Carry this there, keep this there, give that to him, walk faster, and so on.

It’s been four hours since then and I just couldn’t take it anymore.

So I dropped the stack of chairs at the other end of the lathe ballroom and began arranging it, slowly this time because a plan was forming in my head.

All I needed was just one hour of rest, they’d been doing this without me before I got here, I’m sure they can survive without me once more.

I’d caught the vampires looking in my direction about three times, ready to send me elsewhere, but noticing I was busy, they sent someone else.

So when I slipped behind the stairs, no one noticed.

Or so I hoped.

The guard had found me earlier and handed me a small bag and when I opened it, I found a chocolate bar and cake.

I put it in my mouth and I couldn’t help the moan of satisfaction I let out.

I’d not eaten anything in three days. I’d asked one of the human girls what day it was, not verbally of course, I wrote it it down on a book I found while sweeping, so I knew I’d been in that hole for three whole days.

It scared me that my throat hadn’t healed yet and every attempt to swallow or talk was the worst pain ever.

What if I never spoke a word again?

I shook the thought away from my mind and focused on resting in the dark corner under the stairs.

In no time, I could feel drowsiness overcome me, that was how my body dealt with all the fast repairs it was doing to my body.

Hopefully, I can wake up quickly enough to run back to my room. Nobody was allowed to move around during the day around here.

“Ahk!” I screamed when I felt hot, searing pain on my cheeks, waking me up from my sleep.

One of the vampires that was commanding everyone on what to do in the ballroom was standing close to me

“How dare you sleep when there’s still so much work to do?!” he yelled at me, probably alerting the whole palace that I was bad at my job.

A tear ran down my face as I forced myself to get up, unable to utter a word.

“Who gave you permission to rest?” He demanded, staring at me with anger in his entire demeanor.

I didn’t say anything, only looking down at my feet with fear gripping my body.

Chapter 11

Since the Prince drained me to near death, I have developed the fear that I was one wrong interaction with a vampire away from my death. He might have the control to stop, but these ones would never, and 1 might just die.

Sometimes, that doesn’t sound like such a bad idea but I was determined to see my plans through.

Today I got a good look at the compound and somehow made a friend, a guard. That’s a good start, and I’m hoping more things reveal themselves in the future, which would help me run away from here.

But at the moment, I had to deal with an angry, hostile vampire.

He grabbed my jaw and forced me to look at him, my neck hurting from the action.

“Cat caught your tongue?”

“She can’t speak sir,” somebody said from behind him.

He moved aside for me to see a human girl; she looked so scared, yet all I could see was bravery and a great heart.

This was the closest I’d come to being defended besides the incident with the guard, and it felt so good. Twice in a day was a record I’d never gotten to.
