Chapter 8 Jason, the Pervert
Mom was flirting with Mr. Warner when I got home.
He had his arm around her as he spoke to her in a gentle tone, “In a few days, I plan on starting a business. I still need more
money…”
Just then, I barged in and interrupted their intimate moment.
Mom was not happy.
“What is it? Why do you look so ruffled?”
“There’s a pervert outside who’s chasing me…”
As I rambled on in faux fear, I filled in a few gaps with my thoughts.
‘He even says he’s willing to give me tens of thousands in order to marry me! That was terrifying!‘
The second Mom heard my thoughts, her eyes lit up with greed.
“You just got chased around by a man. What’s there to worry about? Mr. Warner and I will go with you to work tomorrow. Tell me who that man is, and I’ll help you.”
I nodded. “Thanks, Mom.”
The next morning, Mom went with me to the factory.
just so happened that Jason spotted me as well and came over to flirt with a lecherous grin on his face.
Why did you run off that quickly last night? I just wanted to talk.”
I deliberately hid behind Mom, saying, “That’s him.”
Mom’s eyes shone as she immediately turned to push me toward the factory doors.
“Go to work for now. I’ll talk to him.”
I did not know what she said to Jason.
When I arrived home that night, Mom had cooked up a feast.
Jason was sitting at the dining table as well.
My face went stark white. “Mom! Why did you invite him over?”
She shot me a glare. “Why are you shouting? He just likes you and wants to get to know you. I’ve explained the whole situation. We’ll share a meal together and forget about this. From now on, he’ll stop bothering you.”
“R–Really?” I exclaimed in disbelief.
“I’m your mother. Why would I lie to you?”
She rolled her eyes and urged me to move, saying, “Get over here already.”
That was when I finally sat down at the dining table.
Mom poured me a glass of wine as she kept rambling on.
“Anyway, you’re getting on in age. What’s wrong with marriage?”
“H–He’s older than me by twenty years…”

Panic was written all over my face.

Jason was around the same age as my mom. He also came from a rural village in the mountains that was incredibly poor.
He was only working at the factory because he could not find a way. His goal was to lure or steal one back.
“What if he’s old? Older men are better at caring for their wives.”
Mom did not care at all about the age gap.
She only stopped talking about marriage when the look on my face grew progressively unpleasant.
“Come. Let’s have a toast.”
I had no choice but to raise my glass as well.
When she finally saw me down the whole glass, she had a satisfied smile on her face and stopped the act.
“I’ve come to an agreement with him. He’ll give me 30,000. You’ll head home with him and live out the rest of your life there.”
“How can you do this to me? I’m your daughter!”
My face twisted in shock.
“I’m doing this for your own good. Once you’re married, you can enjoy the rest of your life in peace and happiness,” Mom said with a huff.
“You should be thankful.”
As she watched me slump over, she happily turned to Jason.
“Give me the money. You can have her now.”
Jason pulled out 30,000. However, he handed the money to me instead of her.
I accepted with a smile, also stopping my act.
“Mom, you’re right. Only married women will be happy. Dad has been gone far so long. It’s about time you find a new man.”
Mom panicked. “What are you saying?”
