Back in the ceremony’s backstage lounge, 1 stared directly at Jace”Are you hiding something from me?”
The Alpha who’d just bloodied Kael’s nose at our ceremony, voice dripping with menace, seemed like a completely different person from the gentle, refined Alpha in my memories.
For a moment, I even wondered if I’d misjudged his true nature.
My mind involuntarily drifted to those years when he’d patiently helped me train.
Even when I failed ten times, he’d remain consistently gentle “Take it easy, Alina. You can do this.”
Until one time, I accidentally caught him muttering to himself against a wall, fists clenched tight.
“It doesn’t matter if my mate’s talent is lacking. I’ll just teach her more… Even if she never learns, that’s my failure, not hers.”
I’d thought it was my imagination then.
Jace shifted uncomfortably under my gaze, coughing softly and turning away”You used to be like a frightened pup-if I raised my voice even slightly, you’d run away with tears in your eyes… So I had to act refined and gentle, the way you liked.”
As soon as he finished speaking, he suddenly leaned closer with a knowing smile, lips curving placatingly”Dear Luna,are you okay?”
I stared for several seconds, then burst out laughing.
So this was his true nature, and this version of Jace more real, more live.
Meanwhile, in the hospital, Kael opened his eyes to find four pairs of eyes staring at him.
His parents, Amaris, and Amaris’s intimidatingly imposing father were all present.
“Kael, you are an Alpha,stop thinking about that bitch wolf!” Luna Marry lowered her voice. “She eloped with someone else! Is she worth risking your life
over?”
“What matters now is your ceromony with Amaris. Mr. Grimveil came specially today to set the date.”
Kael’s head buzzed as he slowly processed this.
“Mom, are you insane? Amaris… she’s only my friend! What ceremony? What kind of joke is this?”
Mr. Grimveil’s face darkened”Bullshit! My daughter is carrying your Alpha pup, and you just regard her as your friend? What do you take the Grimveil family
for,Mr.Alpha?”
Alpha Thorne quickly intervened”Ahem, this is definitely Kael’s fault. Of course we’ll have the ceremony-let’s set it for next month. We’ll cover all expenses.”
Kael stared at Amaris in disbelief”Didn’t we agree you’d raise the pup yourself without interfering with Alina and me?”
Amaris kept her head down, voice barely audible: “I never said that… you forced me into this.”
“SLAP!”
A resounding slap struck Kael’s face, delivered by Mr. Grimveil.
“You call her friend then expect her to raise the pup alone?” he roared. “You think the Grimveil family has no position?”
He issued his ultimatum”If the Thorne family tries to shirk responsibility, I’ll take this to your workplace and destroy your reputation!”
With that, he stormed out, slamming the door.
Chapter 7
The room fell deathly silent.
Even Luna Marry, who usually spoiled her son, didn’t dare speak.
Kael’s fury peaked, rage burning in his chest Amaris, tell me again-when did I force you into anything?”
A fragile smile crossed Amaris’s face”Let’s stop being bros, okay? I’ve liked you for years. 1 could only get close by pretending to be your buddy.”
“But you clearly… felt something too, right? Otherwise we wouldn’t have this pup.”
The moment she finished speaking. Kael’s expression changed completely.
He thought of those nights spent arm-in-arm, of that drunken, confused coupling…
He clutched his stomach, nearly retching.
In that moment, he finally realized-he had completely betrayed Alina Vale.
“GET OUT.” He spat those words coldly.
Amaris bit her lip, voice choking”You were clearly happy when we were together. You always resented and criticized Alina Vale… Who do you really love?”
“I’ll never love my ‘bro.”
Kael looked at her coldly, as if seeing a stranger.
Amaris froze, tears streaming down her face.
She’d calculated everything except this-that what Kael couldn’t accept most was her dropping the “brother” facade.
Overwhelmed with shame and anger, she fled the room.
Kael ripped out his IV, face pale as paper.
His wolf nature finally awakened, but it was too late.
He rushed from the room like a madman with only one thought-
I need to find her. I need to win back Alina Vale!
