Chapter 3
“What?”
“I’ve already spoken with both our families. Three days from now is the most auspicious lunar phase the pack has chosen this year. I don’t want to miss this bonding ceremony.”
Without waiting for my response, he took my hand. His palm was damp with nervous sweat.
I stared at his tense profile, suddenly stopping mid-step”Jace, I want a traditional bonding ritual. Can you make that happen for me?”
He went still, then spun around sharply. In that instant, his eyes lit up like stars piercing the night sky.
“Of course,” he said simply, his voice gentle yet solemn.
My thoughts drifted back to the past.
After we came of age, we attended our first training camp together. He was the most respected young Alpha, while I was just an ordinary Omega student who hadn’t even completed awakening-always overlooked by the trainers.
Later, we were assigned to different territories. I graduated from human university while he was selected for the pack’s tactical academy. Yet he took a three-hour train ride every week just to see me, never missing a single visit for three whole years.
Until I chose to bond with Kael.
Dragging my luggage back to my old pack, my mother wordlessly pulled me into her arms, eyes red with tears”That bastard Alpha isn’t worth your tears.”
My father’s face was thunderous as he spoke into the pack numbers “Anyone who does business with Kael Thorne can forget about dealing with Vale family.”
After comforting my parents, I collapsed onto my bed, feeling utterly drained.
absently opened my phone, and Amaris’s latest post filled the screen.
Eight gaming victory screenshots, with the center image showing her sitting on Kael’s lap, flashing a peace sign at the camera.
The caption read”Friends conquers all.”
silently liked the post.
Minutes later, Kael called, his tone as condescending as ever.
Want to game? Amaris and I can carry you-just don’t run off or throw the match.”
‘d once begged him to help me improve at these werewolf competitive games, even though I was terrible at them, trying so hard to fit into his world.
hat time, he’d only tolerated me for ten minutes before unleashing hell.
Useless Omega, stop dragging me down and get out!”
Today he was actually inviting me.
was about to hang up when I heard Amaris’s sickeningly sweet voice in the background.
Kael,I feel sick again! And it’s all your fault…Mmh…you had to go all the way that night. My back’s killing me-come to rub it.”
‘Can’t you coddle your mate later?Friend or Bitch-your choice.”
Kael didn’t respond to her, just coldly snapped at me.
If you’re not going to talk, forget it. Can’t be bothered.”
Chapter’s
The line went dead.
My mind went blank with shock.
What damn “drunken accident”? It was premeditated all along.
Looking back, the signs were everywhere-
Every date with me bored him, yet he’d stay up all night gaming with Amaris, laughing until dawn.
Every trip required bringing Amaris along because “she livens things up.”
In his contacts, Amaris’s chat was always pinned to the top with special sound, labeled “High-Quality Teammate.”
Even on Valentine’s Day?Whatever gift he bought me, Amaris got one too”She’s so pitiful, no Alpha pays attention to her. Just being kind.”
And whenever I questioned it, he’d explode.
“Stop your fake tricks again!Maybe we should just break the bond and save you the trouble of using daddy’s resources to control me.”
“Don’t think having the Vale family behind you means you can order me around. I’m Alpha, everyone couldn’t challenge me!”
How many times had I wondered if I’d been firmer, forced him to keep his distance from Amaris, would things have been different?
But around him, I was always that insecure, timid Omega, ground into dust.
He’d once coldly assessed me “Sensitivity, paranoia, stupidity-classic Omega flaws.”
Every emotion, every insecurity became “unreasonable dramatics” in his eyes.
What else could I say?
