Chapter 9
“Henry, have you been wronged because of me? I don’t deserve it. If Jessica hates me, maybe I should just die!”
In the past, Henry would have held her tight to comfort her.
But this time, he angrily stared at Rhea, breaking free from her embrace.
“Rhea, do you know what your parents did? They killed people!”
Rhea’s lips trembled as she looked at Henry as if she had been deeply hurt and wronged.
“I’ve already told you, my parents made an unintentional mistake. It was unintentional. Jessica must have said some- thing, right? She always brings up my parents‘ affairs, trying to remind me of my place.
“Yeah, someone like me doesn’t deserve real care.”
My parents came rushing after Rhea, but before they could say anything to comfort her, Henry suddenly threw his phone at Rhea’s face.
“Unintentional mistake? You really know how to cover for them! The people they killed were my parents. Do you know that?! If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t be all alone!”
When Henry saw the panic and evasion in Rhea’s eyes after hearing those words, he knew she had known everything all along.
In fact, I had only learned about this by chance, but before I could tell Henry, I had been locked up for years.
These past few days, I’ve been investigating the matter again and learned the whole truth.
Since Henry was so generous, I’d let him continue giving Rhea a chance.
“Henry, listen to me, it’s not like that… I… I didn’t know…”
At this point, my parents were also dumbfounded, even forgetting to speak.
“With all the evidence, what else is there to say? Did you just want to take those three minors hiking, or were you try- ing to cause trouble and frame Jessica?”
“I didn’t!”
Rhea immediately screamed in denial, unaware that her frantic response made Henry and me see the truth clearly,
“I knew it. Some things in people’s nature never change.”
After saying that, I left.
As I reached the door, two cars pulled up, and a dozen people quickly got out and surrounded Rhea.

Seeing things weren’t looking good, I slipped outside to watch the fun.
The people who arrived were all family members of the victims. They hadn’t shown up in the past few days, probably because they were investigating the truth. Now that they knew the truth, they were here to seek revenge on Rhea.
My parents quickly shielded Rhea, putting on a show of bravado as they glared at the group.
“It was Jessica who killed your children. Why are you coming after Rhea?!”
“Rhea didn’t hurt anyone. We’re Jessica’s biological parents. Why would we lie? What do we gain from this?”
No matter what they said, those who had the evidence weren’t going to let Rhea off the hook.
Just as they were about to take action, Rhea suddenly screamed, “Wait!
“I took them hiking because of my adoptive parents‘ instruction. They did this to pave the way for their son!”
“Rhea is a good-” My parents‘ words instantly caught in their throats as they turned back in disbelief, staring at Rhea, the one they had been protecting.
“What did you say?”
Rhea dropped the act. “Isn’t it true? You look down on me, your adopted daughter, and always give me the hardest tasks. To survive, I had no choice but to do it!”
My parents never expected that their beloved daughter would betray them like this.
Once they regained their senses, my parents and Rhea immediately started blaming each other.
