Seeing their faces turn pale, I sneered and looked away.
Just as I thought, they’d brainwashed themselves into believing it was my fault. But it didn’t matter. I’d help them re- member.
When my parents realized what I meant, they flew into a rage and charged at me. “You won’t be satisfied until you ruin Rhea, is that it?”
I grabbed my dad’s raised hand and yanked it away. “She ruined herself. What does that have to do with me?”
Henry looked at me with disappointment in his eyes. “Jessica, you know Rhea hasn’t been doing well mentally. Why would you do this? What happened back then was just a mistake. She deserves a chance to make things right.
“Our wedding’s postponed for now. I’m staying with Rhea until this whole matter is over.”
Henry’s so–called threat didn’t faze me. I’d already decided to walk away the moment he betrayed me.
After my leg injury got better, I was discharged from the hospital and rented a house outside. When I went home to grab a few things, I walked in on Henry hugging Rhea.
The moment he saw me, he instinctively let go.
“Rhea’s been feeling down, so I was just comforting her. What you said that day was all lies, right? Those people did- n’t come after us.”
Since Rhea hadn’t had any trouble in the past few days, Henry had softened his attitude toward me.
When he saw me remain silent and unfazed, Rhea hurried over to explain.
“Please don’t misunderstand. There’s nothing between Henry and me. Whatever you want, I would never compete with you for it. I know I don’t have the standing to, anyway. After all, I’m just an adopted daughter in this family.”
As Rhea spoke, her eyes reddened, and she lowered her head.
“So what if you’re adopted? To us, you’re our only child!”
“Jessica, are you here to provoke Rhea again? Just get out! Don’t show your face around here again!”
My parents rushed out at the sound of my footsteps, trying to kick me out. I didn’t waste time arguing with them. Af- ter grabbing a few important things, I turned and left.
I hadn’t gotten far when Henry caught up with me.
“Jessica, everyone makes mistakes. We should give Rhea a chance to start over. Besides, she’s had it tough enough growing up without parents. Why do you have to be so pushy?”

Chapter 8
I had planned to walk away, but his words, full of moral manipulation, made me stop in my tracks.
“So, you think everyone deserves a second chance, even if they’ve made mistakes, right?”
Henry nodded, his face serious. “Exactly!”
“Then do you know why Rhea doesn’t have parents?”

Henry’s expression instantly turned cold. “Of course, I know. It’s because her parents made a mistake. If someone had given them a chance back then, Rhea wouldn’t have turned out like this. Do you want Rhea’s future children to end up as miserable as she was?”
At those words, I pulled out my phone, searched for something, and sent it to Henry. Then I smiled at him.
“Well, it seems like you still don’t know what Rhea’s parents did wrong. Since you don’t know, you should take a good look at that.”
Henry opened his phone in confusion, but as he saw what I had sent, his face darkened more and more until he almost crushed the phone in his hand.
He stared at me with red eyes, tears streaming down his face.
“It’s impossible. This can’t be true!”
Just then, Rhea caught up and, seeing Henry in such a state, immediately rushed to hold him.
