I could tell my words were sinking in.

Just as the crowd started closing in, someone wearing a hat and a mack appeared beside me,
Without a word, they grabbed my hand and led me away at a brisk pace, pulling me through the throng of people and out of sight,

Gradually, the voices and footsteps behind us faded into the distance, the buzz of crowds becoming mere background noise.
Once we were clear of the crowd, he slowed down and finally came to a stop, panting lightly.
He reached up and pulled off his hat and mask, revealing the familiar face underneath.
“Narik?” I said, my eyes wide with surprise. “Why are you dressed like this?”
He glanced at me, a trace of annoyance in his eyes.
“Do you even have to ask?” he said grudgingly.
“After your… explosion earlier, everyone’s been looking for a replay of the video. And guess what? Since I was there too, people recognized me. I’m practically on fire now.”
Narik had always been popular–his striking features and effortless charm made him a favorite among many girls.
But after his racing video started circulating, his fan base had practically exploded.
Every time he walked through the halls, it seemed like a new group of admirers had sprung up out of nowhere.
As we spoke, I noticed a group approaching.
I saw Sorcia leading the procession, followed by her usual entourage, in which I saw, unsurprisingly, the figure of Alice. Alice had been her follower when she was in school.
Sorcia’s gaze locked onto me, her lips curling into a smug grin, but Alice… Alice wouldn’t meet my eyes.
She kept her head down, avoiding my gaze completely.
Sorcia had been humiliated earlier during our duel.
According to the agreement, she and her followers were supposed to pay a large sum of money and apologize door–to–door to the people they had bullied; but Sosia was only willing to pay the money and adamantly refused to apologize, believing that it would tarnish her image.
The whole process had left them with their pride severely dented, though they were far from defeated.
As Sorcia passed, she shot me a venomous look.
“Just wait,” she said, her voice dripping with malice. “I’ve got a little surprise for you later.”
