Chapter 9
The internet was filled with various speculations.
“I heard she used the sex addiction therapist title to deceive some big shot from abroad, but his legitimate wife trapped her in a hotel.”
“Fraud and extortion… she’ll never get out.”
I turned off the TV, picked up my pen, and continued working on my design sketches.
These people and events had nothing to do with me anymore.
Late at night, I raised my hand and slowly removed the diamond earrings from my ears while looking at my reflection in the mirror.
2
Rhett had personally put them on me at our wedding, saying: “Liora, never take them off. They represent my eternal love.”
I laughed coldly and casually threw those expensive earrings into the trash can.
Backstage at Milan Fashion Week, the lights were blazing.
I watched one top model after another, wearing our studio’s latest “Phoenix” series jewelry, confidently walking onto the runway.
Under the camera flashes, the jewelry sparkled brighter than any stars I had ever seen.
After the show ended, applause still echoed throughout the venue.
Backstage, a reporter held a microphone to my lips: “Miss Liora, the Phoenix series design is truly stunning. What was your inspiration?”
Just as I was about to speak, my mentor grabbed the microphone from my hand.
‘Inspiration?”
‘From a pair of worthless diamonds that Liora’s ex-husband gave her, which she threw away like garbage. I thought it was a pity, so I picked them up and urned them into something new.”
The venue fell silent.
Behind me, the large screen that should have been showing highlights from the runway show suddenly switched to a dark prison visitation scene.
The camera was focused directly on Rhett’s face, swollen and pale from long-term medication.
His eyes were fixed on the live broadcast, and hearing my mentor’s words, his mouth twitched.
Riven stood opposite him and added: “Now, she will have something better.”
n that moment, the whole world witnessed his humiliation.
Three months later, at a seaside estate.
The salty breeze stirred the air, making the white curtains flutter gently.
Riven placed a document on the table in front of me, his eyes filled with gentle laughter.
‘Liora, the adoption papers are all sorted. Have you decided on names?”
I looked down at the two little girls in the file, their hair braided, smiles like sunshine.
A sudden gust of wind blew in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, my signed divorce decree swirled in the air, then drifted out the window and fell into the
sea.
I didn’t go to retrieve it.
In the distance, the blazing sun rose from the horizon, painting the entire world golden.
I looked up and smiled.
