Chapter 4
I didn’t let this whole thing escalate into a major fight with Samuel
First, he’d given me a very sincere apology.
Flowers, gifts, money, and plenty of sweet gestures to win me back–he even thoughtfully labeled his transfers as “voluntary gifts.”
Second, I don’t have rose–colored glasses when it comes to my partner.
Tiffany was an established fact that existed long before I came into the picture.
No matter how they ended up breaking up, the beautiful moments they shared when they were in love would remain untouched by
time.
Maybe things are different now.
But those memories will inevitably become precious over time.
I’m willing to let Samuel keep those precious memories.
People are emotional creatures, after all.
We get attached to objects we’ve used for a long time–how much more so with someone we once loved?
If I were in Samuel’s shoes today, I probably wouldn’t be able to stay completely detached either.
Besides, Tiffany’s situation really was heartbreaking.
Setting aside her prestigious education and the bright future she should have had.
As a woman myself, I also understand her pain and despair after being betrayed by the person she trusted most.
also admire her courage and determination to choose divorce when her marriage fell apart.
This actually reflects some of my own feelings.
When I first entered the legal profession, I didn’t have the luxury of choosing cases–whatever landed on my desk, I worked on.
Later, as my career advanced and I gained more influence, I gradually began to specialize in divorce law.
Of course, before things actually fall apart completely, I believe all relationships deserve to be taken seriously.
That’s how I feel about Samuel.
He’s handsome, has a great personality, excellent work skills, and can cook amazingly well.
He’s in his early thirties but has maintained his fitness routine for years–you can clearly see his abs, and he has that broad shoulders, narrow waist, ‘rock–hard‘ body.
In conventional terms, he’s exactly my type.
So this marriage is still worth preserving, at least for now.

Chapter 4
Life moved forward peacefully.
Samuel and I went about our work as usual, and when we got off early, we’d catch a movie or he’d cook us a great meal.
Tiffany seemed like a brief side quest in a video game.
Leave it alone, and it fades away on its own.
I heard about her again half a month later.
It was at a small gathering with friends, and one of them happened to be Samuel’s classmate.
He suddenly brought her up.
“She and her husband have been fighting pretty hard lately. Her social media used to be all zen and perfect, but now it’s just depressing posts about how miserable she is.”
“Oh right, Samuel, what’s this about her saying you and your wife are being cold to her in the group chat?”
“That night, wasn’t she the one who randomly blew up at Ava first?”
I paused and looked up at Samuel.
Samuel was prepping the salad when he heard this. He thought for a moment, then opened his phone and handed it to me.
He kept it brief: “She tried to add me several times. I didn’t accept.”
I glanced at the screen–Tiffany had sent five friend requests in a row.
The first was the default system message, the second she noted [It’s Tiffany Hart], the third said [I have something to ask you].
Clearly Samuel hadn’t accepted the first three requests.
So in the fourth one she wrote: [Are all you lawyers this arrogant?]
Samuel still didn’t accept.
The most recent one read: [I was having an emotional reaction that day. Please help me apologize to Mrs. Carter.]
I looked at Samuel: “You’re not going to deal with her?”
Samuel frowned slightly: “No need.”
I thought for a moment.
Then I replied to Tiffany’s last message: [No need. —Ava.]
I thought that would be the end of it.
But a few days later, our law firm had an unexpected visitor.
Tiffany Hart.
