Later, colleagues gossiped with me about what happened next
Samuel was undoubtedly fired from the law firm
And because the short video went viral, everyone in the industry knew about it, completely trashing his reputation–things got so bad
that no law firm would touch him.
It’s understandable, really. Every industry cares about reputation.
With that kind of track record, no matter how capable he was, everyone worried that hiring him would eventually come back to bite
them.
I’d seen the amount of the breach of contract penalty.
Actually, considering Samuel’s income over the years, it wasn’t exactly astronomical.
His savings plus three to five years of work could have paid it off.
But after this incident, his income plummeted, and who knows when he’d be able to pay off that penalty.
A colleague sighed
“Samuel really was capable, what a waste. How many years does it take just to get through law school in our field? How many more years to build up clients and cases?”
“Now it’s all gone–no money, no job, no future. Decades of hard work, all for nothing.”
“Oh, and that woman–she’s in even worse shape!”
I tilted my head to listen.
The colleague sneered:
“She was supposed to get that huge settlement that day and become a wealthy single woman after her divorce.”
The Draytons were absolutely furious–they kicked her out with nothing.”
That was a true clean sweep. Forget about all those different designer bags she used to carry–I heard they didn’t even let her take out any decent clothes. Brutal”
I thought about it: “Well, now they’re both single, so they can finally be together.”
The colleague laughed even louder.
“Ava, you haven’t heard?”
The day Samuel left, that woman came looking for him, bawling her eyes out, demanding he take responsibility for her.”
I’ve never seen Mr. Carter look so scary.”
“He used to be such a gentle guy, but that day he was like a demon. He slapped her and called her trash, said she’d ruined herself and was trying to drag others down with her,”
