Chapter 10
(Samuel’s POV)
When I received the notice for the emergency shareholders‘ meeting. I knew I was done for
I forced myself to walk into the conference room, trying to ignore the judgmental stares from my colleagues.
For the first time ever, every single shareholder and senior partner was present
These assholes-
They usually blow off regular meetings with some lame excuse, but now they all show up.
I saw Ava sitting quietly to one side. Right, Ava was a partner too, just like me.
They dropped their usual politeness and shoved a document across the table.
I glanced at it.
It was the partnership agreement I’d signed, along with a breach of contract notice.
The shareholders‘ representative spoke without emotion:
‘Mr. Carter, you’ve seen the video that’s gone viral online, haven’t you?”
Your inappropriate behavior with a client, especially a married client, has seriously violated professional ethics and damaged the ntegrity of our profession.”
Particularly for our firm, it has caused irreparable negative impact.”
Effective immediately, you’re being expelled. Additionally, we will pursue breach of contract damages according to the partnership lause you signed.”
instinctively looked up at Ava.
he sat there calmly, as if the person being judged wasn’t her husband, but just some random stranger.
tried to find some trace of emotion in those eyes.
leartbreak, sadness, grief–hell, even anger would have been something.
But there was nothing.
How could this be happening?
his wasn’t how it was supposed to be.
iva… how could she look at me with such cold indifference?
Overwhelming regret rose from the depths of my heart, quickly consuming me.
When did everything start to change?

Chapter 10
When Tiffany showed up at the reunion that day, I honestly felt nothing.
I even kind of despise her.
Ava was so beautiful, so intelligent, so accomplished–she was better than Tiffany in every way.
I wasn’t blind. How could I not tell the difference between a brick and gold?
But when Tiffany exposed her pain in front of everyone, my heart suddenly shook violently.
Even I couldn’t understand what kind of feeling this was.
Ava was so smart–she had already caught my reaction with perfect accuracy.
She asked me: “Samuel, what exactly are you so upset about?”
I quickly pulled myself together.
I started deliberately steering myself back on track.
When Tiffany tried to add me on social media several times but I ignored her.
I kept telling myself–a wise man avoids danger.
But I never expected Tiffany to show up again.
She threw herself into my arms crying, and from that moment on, everything spiraled out of control.
I missed the movie with Ava.
And that’s when I told my first lie to Ava.
When that lie came out of my mouth, I was filled with self–hatred and frustration.
I had become exactly the kind of man I despised most–no different from any other cheating bastard in this world.
Tiffany kept creating opportunities to throw herself at me.
She constantly brought up memories from when we were dating, and her clothes and style were clearly trying to recreate the past.
But Tiffany and I had been apart for nearly ten years.
Even though she was in her thirties and well–maintained, her looks might not have changed much, but her demeanor was completely different from before.
Those slip dresses that looked playful and cute when she was twenty.
Now they just looked completely out of place.
Completely incomparable to Ava’s natural grace and elegance.
Especially since she and I both knew we were in our respective marriages, with lines we couldn’t cross.
But one time when I was walking her to the parking garage.
In the dark stairwell around the corner, she kissed me with intense passion and boldness.

I’ve thought about that moment countless times since then, and I’m even grateful it happened in the stairwell and not the office.
Otherwise, if Ava had seen that scene, how heartbroken would she have been?
At that moment, my mind exploded.
When I came to my senses, my body had already been taken over by instinctive desire, gradually responding to her kiss.
She melted into my arms, panting softly while her hands moved to unbutton my shirt.
In that moment, Ava’s eyes suddenly flashed before me.
Those eyes looking at me, slowly saying “Winning without fighting is the highest form of victory.”
I snapped back to reality.
Then instinctively pushed away Tiffany’s flushed face.
Tiffany was stunned for a long time before her eyes turned red and she demanded to know what I meant.
She sneered:
“Are you trying to stay faithful to your wife?”
“Samuel, cut the act. If you were really such a stand–up guy, how would you end up here with me?”
I fled like a coward.
Ava said Tiffany was my first love.
But there was no such thing as a first love.
Just like we always reminisce about childhood, about youth, and in old age we reminisce about the life we’ve lived.
The moonlight always illuminates the past we can’t return to, not some specific person who came later.
I kept telling myself to stop there, to pull back from the cliff before I truly crossed the line.
Just wait for Tiffany’s case to be over.
Then I’d cut ties with her, return to Ava’s side, and get everything back on track.
But Ava didn’t give me that chance.
After announcing my punishment, the shareholders left.
Ava was the last one to walk past me, then she stopped.
She took out a piece of paper from her folder and handed it to me.
I looked down at it.
Divorce papers.
Ava had already signed.
