I chuckled, finding him kind of cute.

“Abel, you seriously care about looking cool in front of me?”

He straightened up and said with a proud grin, “Of course. Gotta keep some dignity, you know?”

We didn’t let Justin’s drama get to us and went right back to getting everything ready for the wedding.

Abel gave me a rare pink diamond ring and even picked the wedding venue I’d always dreamed of.

Not long after Justin was taken to the hospital, he started asking to be discharged.

Then, he showed up outside the villa every day, trying to block me from leaving. He even sent me the flowers and cakes he had been reluctant to buy for me.

I just felt annoyed and sent everything back.

About a month later, Abel and I finally decided to get married.

On the wedding day, a delivery guy showed up with a package, insisting I had to sign for it myself.

I lifted the bottom of my dress and stepped out of the lounge to sign.

“Do you know who sent this?” I asked, confused. But he had no clue.

I headed back inside and opened the box. Instantly, I gagged as the smell of blood hit me hard.

I covered my mouth, trying not to throw up. My fingers went weak, and I dropped the box. It hit the floor, spilling out a clump of something bloody and gross.

It was beyond nasty.

Before I could even get someone to clean it up, my phone rang.

I was still queasy but picked up anyway. “Hello?”

No one said anything.

“Who is this? If you’re not gonna talk, I’m hanging up.”

There was a long pause. Finally, a voice came through.

“Lillian, did you get the wedding gift I sent?”

When I heard that, I glanced at the mess on the floor.

“You seriously sent me that?”

My temper flared as I started cursing.

“Justin, are you completely out of your mind?

“What the hell is wrong with you? Are you trying to ruin my big day?”

I yelled into the phone without thinking.

Abel rushed in as soon as he realized something was wrong. He instinctively hugged me. “Are you hurt?”

He scanned me. Once he saw I was okay, he finally relaxed.

Justin must’ve heard Abel’s voice-he hung up. I didn’t even bother to care.

“I’m okay. Just felt a little nauseous and threw up once.”

I gave his hand a little squeeze and shook my head, letting him know I was fine.

Abel relaxed and had someone come and clean everything up. After that, he brought me to the wedding venue.

Everything stayed calm through the ceremony.

Then, we flew overseas right after getting married.

Three months into our life abroad, I saw Justin’s name pop up in the news.

He had ended his life in a villa. They said he’d been dead for over two weeks. His wife was beside him. People were saying it looked like a tragic love story.

I glanced at it indifferently, felt nothing, and moved on.

“Lillian, I got you the croissant you love.”

Abel was walking toward me, bathed in the glow of the sunset. His suit jacket was slung over one arm, and my fa- vorite pastry was in the other.

We were heading into the future that belonged just to us.
