Chapter 6
After Allison’s situation was resolved, Myles solemnly promised to throw us an engagement party.
On the day of the engagement party, just as Myles and I were about to exchange rings, several police officers suddenly burst in and restrained Myles on the spot.
One of the officers said, “Mr. Fisher, someone has reported that you cheated and got the other party pregnant. Please come with us.”
An unbelievable suspicion immediately formed in my mind.
Forgetting about the unfinished engagement ceremony, I immediately followed the police to the station.
Before I even entered, that familiar shrill voice pierced my ears.
When I saw that mean, familiar face, my heart sank.
She really was like a ghost that wouldn’t go away.
Seeing me, Allison flashed a victor’s smile: “Nathalia, I told you before–Myles is my husband, the father of the child in my belly.”
She gently caressed her slightly protruding abdomen, a strange
expression crossing her face.
Looking at her belly, I felt suspicious.
Just two days ago, she hadn’t shown such obvious signs of pregnancy. How had it suddenly become so apparent now?
My thoughts drifted back to my previous life.
That time, she had used my stolen bracelet to take away the happiness that should have been mine.
Since she could use the bracelet to steal my marriage, this was very likely another carefully orchestrated trap.
I quickly calmed down and began probing her without showing my hand.
I said coolly, “Allison, stop pretending. We both know there’s no child in your belly. Even if you’ve reported Myles now, so what? When it comes time to give birth, the truth will naturally come out.”
Allison shot me a cold glance, her lips curling with disdain: “What do you know? This is a child heaven has blessed me with. Go ahead and make all the noise you want here. When I successfully give birth to this child, maybe you can even attend the baby’s hundred–day celebration.”
As she spoke, she protectively held her belly, as if it contained a priceless treasure.
And indeed, it was a priceless treasure.
With this child, if Myles didn’t want trouble, he’d have to marry her.
Not wanting to tangle further with this crazy woman, I turned to ask the nearby officers about the situation.
The police officer looked helpless as he told me that Allison had come to the station first thing in the morning to file a report. Since she claimed to be pregnant, the police had to handle her case with extra care.
But from the moment she walked in, she’d been making all sorts of demands. When an officer brought her a cup of hot water, she knocked it over and even scalded someone.
When the officers tried to reason with her, she slammed the table and shouted: “My husband is a regiment commander. The child in my belly is his only heir. If you don’t take good care of me, I’ll have my husband throw you all in jail.”
The officers were at their wit’s end but had to serve her carefully, afraid of making any mistakes that could cause an even bigger mess.
I asked in confusion, “Doesn’t she have any evidence to prove she’s pregnant? Just based on a protruding belly, she can claim pregnancy? By that logic, couldn’t I do the same?”
After hearing my questioning, Allison showed an expression that said “I knew you’d say that.”
She sneered: “Open your eyes and look clearly. I am pregnant. The doctor even said I have a naturally fertile constitution. Maybe I’m even carrying a boy.”
With that, she pulled out a diagnostic report from the provincial hospital.
It clearly stated: Allison confirmed pregnant, two months along.
