Chapter 4
Everyone present exchanged bewildered glances, unsure how to react to the bizarre scene unfolding before them.
Allison, however, planted a kiss right on the pig’s snout, then turned to me with a provocative smile. “Did you see that, Nathalia? Myles and I have already pledged our lives to each
other.
“You know how it is with love–you can’t force these things. I can’t just hand over my boyfriend to you just because you’re jealous of me.”
My mouth twitched as I watched her, thinking she must be completely blinded by greed, having no idea what she was actually embracing.
Finally, someone from the crowd of onlookers couldn’t hold back any longer. “Are you out of your mind? Who would be jealous of someone marrying a pig?”
At those words, Allison’s grip on the fat pig suddenly loosened, and her face turned deathly pale.
It wasn’t until someone else spoke up that she snapped back to reality, shrieking, “Get away! What is this thing? Get away from
me!”
But the mud–covered pig seemed to have taken a liking to Allison and charged straight at her.
Her fashionable clothes were instantly covered in mud, and her entire body reeked of pig stench.
The glamorous, stylish woman from moments before was now a complete mess.
Just then, a group of people noisily entered the courtyard.
Leading them was Myles, his crisp military uniform making him look dashingly handsome, with an air of cool detachment about him.
The large red flower pinned to his chest softened that stern edge, making him appear even more striking and distinguished.
As soon as he walked in, many of the young women in the courtyard couldn’t help but blush.
His eyes found me immediately, and his face lit up with a smile. “Honey, you’ve been ignoring me these past few days, and I’ve been wondering if I did something wrong.
“You’re the only person I want to marry in this lifetime, so I brought everyone here without asking your permission first. Nathalia, will you marry me?”
Hearing Myles‘ words, all my earlier frustration instantly melted
away.
But Allison, standing nearby, reacted like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, shrieking, “Myles, how can you call someone else ‘honey‘?
“You have to get engaged to me today. I’m your destined wife!”
Myles was startled by her piercing scream.
Looking up, he saw Allison covered in mud and filth, looking absolutely wretched.
The fat pig was still circling around her, which annoyed her so much that she kicked at it.
However, not only did she fail to move the animal, but she fell down instead.
Seeing her fall, the pig immediately rushed over and started nuzzling her.
This completely ruined what was left of Allison’s outfit.
She screamed in despair but still managed to curse, “Nathalia, you shameless bitch! I already told you Myles and I have been engaged for ages, yet you’re still trying to seduce him.
“Let me tell you, Myles is my man, and you have no right to compete with me!”
I sighed helplessly. “Allison, you’re really confused. Myles and I have been together for years now. Everyone in the village knows, and besides, Myles already filed our marriage application.”
“You’re lying! I’m his wife. You shameless slut!” She was beside herself with rage, spewing these ugly words one after another.
This chaotic scene also shocked Myles, who had come to
propose.
He quickly explained to me, “I don’t even know her. We’ve been together all this time—you know that except for when I’m at the base, I spend all my time with you.”
This tall man looked utterly wronged, terrified that I might
misunderstand.
I gently patted his shoulder to comfort him, though my heart felt a pang of bitterness.
Myles had always been wonderful to me. Ever since he joined the military, he’d send me part of his allowance every month for dresses and new clothes.
Even though my parents treated me well, he always worried about my life in the village and found ways to send me
interesting things from the city.
He’d sent me cosmetics, lipstick, and once even managed to get me a radio.
It was precisely because of his kindness that in my previous life, when he publicly called me a homewrecker and got engaged to Allison, my heart shattered completely.
Combined with my parents‘ suicide, I lost all hope of living and eventually drowned myself in the river.
Looking back now, he was just a victim of that bracelet’s power
too.
Moreover, I only learned the truth after I died.
The bracelet Allison gave me could actually steal away my marriage.
I was such a fool to die so quietly like that.
At this thought, my eyes immediately filled with tears.
Seeing me suddenly cry, Myles panicked and quickly used the corner of his uniform to wipe my tears.
I finally couldn’t hold back and threw myself into his arms, sobbing uncontrollably.
At this point, the villagers who had come to celebrate finally understood what was really going on.
It wasn’t me interfering with someone else’s relationship–it was Allison living in a fantasy.
“Allison must be crazy desperate to marry Myles!”
“Allison’s the one who’s really shameless. She almost fooled me just now!”
Hearing the villagers‘ comments, Allison finally lost it completely. “Nathalia, you shameless bitch!”
She roared and charged straight at me.
