The bad feeling in Lucas’s heart surged up again.

Seeing Claire’s evasive eyes, he had to admit he had been fooled by her.

The man suddenly lashed out, grabbing Claire’s collar and slamming her head against the window repeatedly.

Blood splattered on the glass as Claire wailed miserably.

“Lucas, I don’t know! I really don’t know!”

Seeing she was still playing dumb, Lucas applied more force. The glass shattered.

Claire was barely conscious in his grip.

This was a VIP room on the 99th floor. Claire saw the “ants” below and lost all her usual

coquettishness.

“I’ll talk, I’ll tell you everything! Please don’t throw me down!”

Lucas pulled her back in, his eyes boring into her menacingly.

“Tell me, where did you hide Mia?”

Claire’s heart was pounding. Pampered until now, she had completely forgotten how terrifying this man could be.

She didn’t dare speak, but the next second found herself staring down the barrel of a gun.

“Claire Lin, don’t keep testing my patience!”

She hiccupped, crying:

in!”

“I was just annoyed by her crying. I just took her to play by the sea. I really didn’t know she would fall

The color drained from Lucas’s face. His limbs went weak and he collapsed backwards.

When he came to, Lucas seemed to have gone mad.

The bodyguards had never seen the boss so fragile.

In their eyes, the boss was always calm and wise. But now he was like a lion who had lost his cub.

He searched frantically in the sea.

But the ocean was too vast. Even dozens of rescue teams diving in were of no use.

The police looked at him mockingly.

“So you’re the almighty Mr. Shaw.”

“We contacted you immediately. You refused to believe us. Now it’s too late, she’s probably been swept away. Who are you putting on this deep act for?”

Lucas didn’t bother with their mockery.

He just stared at the calm sea surface, the suffocation in his chest making it hard to breathe.

Olivia would never forgive him now.

A crystalline tear rolled down from the corner of his eye.

He knew it was completely over between them.

He had just wanted to teach her a lesson. How did things end up like this?

It was all that bitch’s fault.

His eyes turned sinister. “Bring that bitch Claire Lin here.”

But I knew nothing of all this.

When I woke up the next day, I had accepted everything that happened.

Like a walking corpse, I checked myself out of the hospital and took a cab to the police station, wanting to know my daughter’s whereabouts.

But I had no money, so the driver kicked me out.

When I was at my most helpless, I heard a clear cry:

“Mommy!”

The world seemed to start spinning and merging.

The joy of getting back what was lost made me too happy to believe it was real.

She threw herself into my arms. “Mommy, the uncle was amazing. You really came to get me!”

I held her, her soft warm body filling the emptiness in my heart. I burst into loud sobs.

Once I confirmed my daughter was still alive, I noticed the man behind her.

He waved his hands nervously. “Olivia, don’t misunderstand. I’m on the swim team and was training

at the time.”

“I saw Mia fall into the sea so I went to save her.”

“My family happens to own a children’s hospital, so I took her there first.”

“I hope we didn’t cause you any trouble?”

Ignoring the shocked looks of passersby, I knelt on the ground and kowtowed to him.

“You’re our savior.’

He seemed a bit upset. “Olivia, why are you being so formal?”

We were settled in a hotel under his name. Mia was already asleep.

He looked me over with concern, finally blushing as tears welled up in his eyes.

“He doesn’t treat you well!’

My heart trembled as I swallowed back bitter tears.

“All marriages are like this.”

The way he looked at me was restrained yet intense. “No, they’re not!”

“Olivia, my parents are very loving. There are no affairs or mistresses!”

“All cheating should be unforgivable. You used to be the debate team captain in college.”

He seemed to be reminiscing. “You don’t know how radiant you were back then. My roommates were

so envious when I got to talk to you.”

I fell into memories. The me from back then certainly didn’t have this melancholy air.

Back then, I didn’t have the title of Mrs. Shaw.

Don’t I want to live a more brilliant life?

“Ryan, thank you for saving us, no matter what.””

He boldly wrapped an arm around my waist, nuzzling against my chest like Mia would.

“You always reject me, Olivia. Now that Mia likes me too, will you still push me away?”
