Chapter 9
After Lillian left the hospital, I followed suit and left as well.

In the days that followed, I threw myself completely into work, striving to get the Torres Group back on track as quickly as possible.
Time flew by, and before I knew it, autumn had arrived in full force. The streets were filled with a bleak, desolate atmosphere.
The security guard responsible for taking care of Adrian called me multiple times, saying that Adrian insisted on seeing me.
I chose a relatively quiet afternoon and made a trip to the hospital.
After not seeing him for a month or two, Adrian looked even more haggard.
His skin was pale, his eye sockets sunken, and his body gave off a faint smell of decay. He looked like he could die at any
moment.
When he saw me, Adrian first showed an expression of disbelief, then desperately pleaded: “Harper, I want to go home. I don’t want to stay in the hospital anymore. Take me home, please?”
I shook my head: “Mr. Torres, I’m busy handling the Torres Group’s affairs and don’t have time to take care of you. You

should stay in the hospital. There are the most professional medical staff here who can do their best to keep you alive.”

Adrian’s eyes reddened as he choked back tears and begged me: “Harper, I was wrong before. I shouldn’t have treated you that way. We’re husband and wife after all–don’t abandon me. Please, take me home.”
After a long silence, I agreed to his request.
I pushed his wheelchair and brought him back to the Peterson
Manor.
I had lived here for a long time, and the desolate atmosphere that once pervaded the place had finally dissipated.
Although it was already late autumn, the small garden still had vibrant green plants full of life.
Adrian slumped in his wheelchair, his eyes filled with shock: “Harper, why are you still able to live here? This house was clearly…”
I pushed him into the pavilion.
What Adrian couldn’t bring himself to say, I would say for him.
