Chapter 6
After Lillian officially took over the Torres Group, she was riding high for a while.
Once I became vice president, my life suddenly became leisurely, and I actually found this quite pleasant.

Days passed one by one. While the world keeps turning regardless of who’s missing, the Torres Group’s development was clearly struggling.
Lillian made several consecutive poor decisions, even losing several important business partners.
Although Adrian firmly supported her, it was obvious that the directors and senior staff were growing increasingly dissatisfied
with Lillian.
This dissatisfaction gradually began affecting Adrian, who had been steadfastly protecting Lillian.
He was the one who had led the Torres Group to its current position, but the prestige he had built up in the process was gradually crumbling as he desperately defended Lillian while she continued making mistakes.
Half a year after Christmas, financial reports showed the Torres Group’s revenue had dropped 30% year–over–year. The entire Torres Group was thrown into panic.

Adrian could no longer protect Lillian.

In the boardroom, facing the directors‘ rapid–fire questioning, Lillian sat with red–rimmed eyes, unable to say a word.
Adrian clenched his fists, his gaze fixed intently on Lillian.
He felt sorry for her, but didn’t dare say anything.
The Torres Group, which had been developing well, saw its performance drop by 30% just months after he handed it over to Lillian.
It was Adrian who had insisted on making Lillian president.
But the higher Lillian had climbed initially, the harder she was falling now.
Lillian silently endured nearly half an hour of the shareholders‘ fury. Finally, her tears began streaming down uncontrollably.
Adrian couldn’t take it anymore. He wearily rubbed his temples and raised his hand to interrupt the directors‘ accusations. “Please, everyone, calm down. What’s done is done. We need to focus on finding solutions now.”
One director said dismissively, “Easy for you to say. Mr. Torres, what brilliant solution do you have?”

Adrian rubbed his temples again and looked at me with hopeful expectation. “Harper…”
I raised an eyebrow but didn’t respond to his words.
Adrian gritted his teeth and made his decision. “Harper, during the two or three years you managed the Torres Group, it performed at its best. I’ve decided to have you serve as president again.
“I hope you can set aside personal grievances for the sake of the Torres Group’s interests, lead the Torres Group out of its current predicament, and restore its former glory.”
I couldn’t help myself and laughed out loud.
said, “Mr. Torres, you really know how to work the angles. What exactly did the Peterson family do wrong to deserve being used by you over and over again?”
A flash of displeasure crossed Adrian’s expression, but he concealed it well.
“Directors, please take a look at this document first.” With that, I stood up and handed out copies of the document I was holding to each of the directors present.
This was a copy of a cooperation agreement. After the Stella Group rejected collaboration with the Torres Group, it had signed a cooperation agreement with an emerging company.

The agreement’s content was 98% similar to the cooperation agreement that the Stella Group and Torres Group had nearly signed initially.
On this agreement, the signature of the emerging company’s legal representative was none other than Lillian’s signature.
