Chapter 72

Noah

Thank you, Frank and sorry for all this trouble.”

It’s no trouble at all Evalyn, leave it with me and I will get it all sorted.”

I listened as my mother led our family lawyer to the front door before it shut with a click and silence filled the space once more. I could imagine my mother composing herself in the hallway, refusing to let the cool calm façade slip while inside, her blood was no doubt boiling

in rage

I had to admit, I was impressed that my little mouse had gotten the courage up to finally tell not only the school principal but the police as well about my little game. I suspected she had some encouragement from her boyfriend on going to the cops but I was impressed regardless. Ellie still had some spirit left to break. Then again she not only had Kyle to protect her but

also this Aiden Green as well

Finding out about him had been by pure accident but it was an accident I was grateful for. I couldn’t have him getting in the way or giving Ellie too many ideas. He was someone I needed to keep an eye on and when the time came, make sure he was out of the way. Facing him head on would be a bad idea. I had done my research and Aiden could do more damage than his little cousin when it came to a physical fight but that didn’t make him indestructible or

untouchable

It just meant I’d have to hit him where it really hurts

I was staring at my phone when I heard the clickclack of my mother’s Gucci stilettos on the marble tiled floor in the hallway. I didn’t bother to move or pretend to be ashamed by the fact that the police had been at our door again because of something I supposedly did. My mother knew me well and knew I wasn’t even the slightest bit sorry for my actions

A few seconds later, she walked in, heading for the side table where my parents kept their beloved cognac. Neither of us made an attempt to talk either, not until she had poured herself a couple of fingers and taken a sip

Frank thinks he can get the charges dropped based on the socalled evidence being circumstantial.Mom finally spoke, long Manicured nails touching her perfectly styled hair

Frank would be right.I replied, not bothering to hide my boredom in my tone

Jesus Christ, Noah! Could you at least pretend to be sorry?Mother snipped as she sank onto

a love seat opposite me. They are saying there was a camera hidden in the girl’s bedroom! You’re looking at more than bullying here. Just wait until your father hears about this!”

I let out a heavy breath through my nose, frowning in irritation at my mother. I knew the real reason she was upset. She was worried her reputation amongst her circle of snobby judgemental hags would be ruined or tarnished in some way. It really was quite pathetic coming from a woman born into one of the oldest and richest families in the west. I never did understand her obsession for her friendsapproval

Did you get rid of the phone? She suddenly asked, her eyes narrowing at me

Yes.I replied simply. They have no way of pinning this on me.”

Is that because you’re innocent or because you covered your tracks?”

I didn’t bother to answer. Let her agonise over it for a bit

Noah, I thought we were over this.Mom started again, leaning forward in her seat, her crystal glass held precariously in her fingers. Do we need to send you back to counselling?”

I snorted at this and rolled my eyes. Don’t be over dramatic. This is nothing like the last time because nothing is going on. I learnt my lesson.”

I wasn’t lying when I said that. I had indeed learnt my lesson but not in the way my mother had hoped. Of course my mother was blinded by her love for her youngest son. I could set the school on fire and she wouldn’t let me take the fall. While she was indeed attempting to give me a hard time over this, I knew she had already worked out how she was going to get me out of this latest runin with the law unscathed. The school would actually prove easier to turn around. Money spoke volumes when it came to the less than average pencil pushers that ran the school
