Chapter 66

A/N: So firstly, I hope you enjoy this chapter. I was really nervous about writing it for some reason. Let me know your thoughts! Secondly, I keep getting asked when the next update is. I update 2-3 weeks at the moment but I’m only promising 1 chapter a week because I do have commitments outside of writing

So how come you’re running so late?Kyle asked as we headed for school

No reason.I shrugged, trying to play it cool. I was really tired and overslept.”

Despite the wispy grey clouds hanging in the pale blue sky, the autumn sun bathed everything in a gentle light. Soon that soft golden glow would disappear and be replaced with a stark winter light that wouldn’t bring warmth. Yet despite the fact the day was beautiful, I couldn’t shake the nagging feeling in me as we left the house. It seemed to settle deep in my chest and I caught myself rubbing the area subconsciously as if to ease it but my actions were in vain and the niggling didn’t settle

So have you made a decision about the winter dance yet?Kyle carried on, not seeing it my lie

No.I sighed as I felt my phone buzz in my pocket and pulled it out to glance at the screen

Unknown: you should be careful who you insult

Everything okay?Kyle asked

Yeah, just stupid marketing stuff.I sighed glancing at my phone as it buzzed again

*Unknown sent you a photo

Unknown sent you a photo

Unknown sent you a photo

Unknown sent you a photo.* [

I shook my head and stuffed my phone in my pocket but my phone continued to buzz as if I was being called rather than getting messages so I quickly pulled it back out and put it on, silent, noting this asshole had already sent me twelve photos

Okay what about bowling this weekend with Jesse, Max and Bianca?Kyle suggested. Think Aiden will survive without you for that long?”

Chapter 66

Oh ha, ha!I rolled my eyes at him and opened my locker. He’s not that bad. He doesn’t lock me up like some fragile china doll.”

Oh I see the way he looks at you whenever you leave the house or talk to anyone else.Kyle chuckled. He’s hot for you but he doesn’t like sharing.‘

I resisted rising to his trading and followed him towards class. The bubble of dread was slowly building, becoming heavier and heavier like a lead weight. I couldn’t shake the feeling something awful was going to happen but I didn’t know what. Even as I settled into my usual seat with Kyle next me and the rest of the class chatting away, I couldn’t relax. Everything seemed totally normal and yet I felt like at any moment, a bomb was going to explode

I filled my phone from my pocket, my heart jumping into my throat when I saw the unknown sender had now sent me over twenty photos and they seemed to keep coming as if whoever this creep was was doing a data dump on me. Another notification flashed on my screen but this time I was greeted with text

Unknown: You shouldn’t ignore me, Ellie. I told you to get rid of your little bodyguard but you to defy me

My heart felt like it stopped beating as my blood ran cold, my eyes staring blindly as another message came in

Unknown: You should have done as you were told. Now I’m going to make you regret it

My throat felt like it was closing up and I tried to swallow down the lump in my throat. Panic began to bleed into my mind like an inky black fog

I knew who was sending the messages

The world seemed to dim around me. My blood roared in my ears as my heart thundered in my chest so hard it almost hurt. Against all better judgement, I found myself turning in my seat so -painfully slowly, my eyes landing on the person behind me. That same person with black hair and golden skin. That person with eyes like black opals but we’re cold and empty. That person who was holding a phone, his thumb gliding over the touch screen as he wrote another sinister

message
