Set 62

The following days went as I expected. Friday I went to school and work (Shirley tried to convince me not to but I insisted) much to Aiden’s frustration.I couldn’t really take large orders out at the diner but I could do other things like help in the kitchen and take orders. It beat sitting on the couch again all weekend

Kyle was around for a bit on Sunday but mostly I rested and did homework. By Monday I was eager to be doing something again and luckily even that went okay and I was delighted to see my new phone arrived when I got home from school

Plugging the phone into charge, I quickly read the note Aiden left for me letting me know Julia had called and was thankfully going back to Las Vegas and that he needed to run some errands so would be back later in the evening. I felt some relief knowing Julia was gone but I had no

idea when she would be back or if she would be back. Liam hadn’t said much about how his

conversation with our mother went in his last email to me but I hoped he had managed to send her away for as long as possible. It didn’t solve the issue of the money but at least it gave some breathing space. I couldn’t deal with her pretending to be a doting mother when

there was another reason behind her random visit./

Just as I was making myself something for dinner, there was a knock on the door. Abandoning my sandwich, I made my way to the door, throwing it open to reveal fiery curls and slate grey

eyes

Tammy!I gasped, my eyes going wide. Oh my god. It’s so good to see you!”

Same to you, Hun!Tammy laughed, pulling me into a hug. Liam and Aiden told me what happened so I tried to get here as soon as I could.”

Come in, I want to hear all about what you’ve been up to.Ismiled, stepping back to let

Tammy in

Thanks.Tammy smiled brightly, stepping in

It took us only a couple of minutes to get settled. Tammy’s hair was a bit longer and noticed she had a new tattoo on the inside of her left wrist. Otherwise, she was the same old Tammy I had seen a few weeks ago with her airy giggle and positive energy

So, where have you been? I’ve been trying to contact you.I asked once we were both sat on

the couch

I know and sorry for not replying.Tammy sighed, a guilty look crossing her features. I had to head back to my hometown. My sister had a baby but at the same time her husband had

been in an accident at work so he was stuck in hospital.‘

Oh my god, is he okay?I asked

Yeah. Well, he will be.Tammy nodded. But sorry for not getting in touch. I didn’t realise helping with the baby would literally take so much work.”

It’s fine.I smiled. I’m just glad you’re back and okay.”

Same..She frowned softly. But I can’t believe what happened to you. How have you been doing?”

Oh you knowI sighed and shrugged. I’m fine really justembarrassed. I feel so stupid for getting myself drugged like that. I don’t even know how it could have happened. I didn’t leave my drink unattended and I don’t get why they targeted me. No one knows who did it either. The police haven’t been able to pick up any clues so I guess I will never know who did this or

why.”

Tammy nodded, frowning softly. She didn’t show pity but I could see that she was moved the whole ordeal. It was terrifying to think I had become another statistic in one of the many horrible things that happened to women on a daily basis. It was sobering at best

Anyway,I broke the silence that had fallen over her, smiling. You’ve been talking to Liam?”

Oh yeah!Tammy nodded and I thought I caught the glimpse of a shy smile crossing her crimson lips. Which is another reason why I am glad I am back because I did say we would plan him a welcome home party!”

You did.I laughed. I assume you have some ideas already.”

Tammy smirked in mock smugness and wiggling her eyebrows. Of course, here let me show

you.”
