Chapter 60

You can go home if you want to.He replied, still watching me cautiously. It’s not too late.

No, it’s okay.I breathed deeply and forced a brave smile on my face, I want to do this.”

Those words probably held more conviction than I probably felt but I forced myself on, purposely avoiding looking at anyone we passed. I figured it had to be better than trying to work out the look on someone’s face when they saw me. While the majority of my injuries were easily hidden under leggings and long sleeves, I couldn’t easily hide the cut near my hairline or the busted lip. I didn’t want to know what people thought had happened and I certainly didn’t want to give anyone an opportunity to ask

It seemed even the interior of the school had been somewhat transformed while I was away. The events committee had gone decoration crazy in the hallways to announce the upcoming winter dance. Streamers, posters and bunting of white, silver and light icy blue glimmered in the artificial light, billowing softly whenever someone passed by and stirred up the air. To my relief everyone was too busy looking at the posters that advertised the event to notice little ole me limping to my locker

I can’t believe it’s nearly the winter dance already.I sighed as I swapped out one set of books for another. Are you going?”

Kyle leaned back against the lockers beside me, arms crossed as he people-watched.At my question, he raised an eyebrow, glancing at me. Maybe. You?”

I answered with a soft shake of my head, shutting my locker door. It’s a hard pass for me.”

Have you ever been to a school dance?Kyle asked as we headed to class

No.”

Kyle let out an amused laugh and shook his head. Why am I not surprised? You should go this year.He instantly spotted my hesitation. Oh come on El. You’re about to finish highschool! You need to attend at least one school dance before you go to college. It’s part of the highschool experience!”

Well it’s not part of the experience I want to take part in.I huffed

If I go, will you go?Kyle asked

I’ll think about it.I grumbled feeling a small sense of deja vu as we found our seats quickly

Almost immediately I felt eyes burning into me and tensed. Noah was once again sat behind me, obsidian eyes burning into me as he glowered my way. He had been keeping his distance again which I was more than relieved by especial had other crap to deal with but that didn’t stop me from casting a glance his eyes, frowning in frustration. Why co he just let whatever issue he had with me go and move on? Surely a guy like him had much more entertaining things to do, right

Take a picture, it might last longer.I muttered to myself as I turned back in my seat to focus on the teacher as class began

Much to the relief of the introvert in me, no one noticed me and so no one made any comments, asked awkward questions or gave me pitying glances. Everyone was too buzzed about the winter dance and I was happy the winter dance was all anyone was talking about.

Chapter 60

Despite getting out of the house finally, I was exhausted by the end of the day and I was glad to be heading home. Aiden would hopefully be there as well. The thought sent both excitement and anxiety through me. We hadn’t really been alone since the other day when he kissed me and we haven’t had much time to talk either. Sure, Kyle knew about us but the thought of him seeing Aiden and I doing anything remotely intimate sent me into a panic every time. I still fell a bit mortified that Kyle knew
