Chapter 33

I hadn’t waited for Aiden to come home that night. I’m not sure if he did make it back or if Tammy was able to find ha and he had decided to go to hers. I tried not to care but that proved easier said than done.

Either way, he wasn’t home for the rest of the weekend leaving me with my thoughts and homework. I was relieved really because I wasn’t sure how I was going to explain to Aiden that I wasn’t interested in him (when I really was). He’d see right through any lie mostly because I was fucking terrible at lying. In the end I realised I had to be honest. He was in a relationship with Tammy and I wasn’t going to do anything that could result in her getting hurt.

Monday came around far too quickly however, unlike the previous month’s where I had dreaded going into school, for once I felt okay about it. Noah had been keeping his distance and Kyle was there to make sure I had a friend. I had been considering cancelling my final classes. I didn’t need the credit but had done it to keep myself busy especially with no one around to keep me company. Now Kyle was there, I was happy to keep going.

A knock on the front door told me Kyle was here before the front door opened, letting in cool autumn air. It was sunny out at the moment however, grey clouds were creeping in, turning the early morning light a pale vanilla colour. It is indeed

autumn now.

“Hey princess.” Kyle greeted me far too cheerily for a Monday morning. “All set for another great day at school?”

I narrowed my eyes at him to illustrate my disapproval of his chirpiness. His nose and cheeks were tinged pink from walking in the cool air while his flaxen hair was dishevelled from the wind. I didn’t get how he could be this happy on a Monday morning especially as he hated school and liked to remind me of it whenever he could. Perhaps something has changed. Maybe he had a secret girlfriend or knew something I didn’t about today’s lessons. I highly doubted.

“Oh dear. You look like you could do with more sleep.” He chuckled, unfazed by my death glares.

“I was playing Call of Duty last night and lost track of time,” I admitted, turning back to my toast. “How come you’re in a good mood?”

“Oh no reason.” He shrugged as he plopped into a seat at the kitchen table. “Too much caffeine maybe?”

“Hmm,” I wasn’t too convinced but left it as I munched on my breakfast.

“Is Aiden in?” Kyle suddenly asked.

I shrugged. “No.”

“Yes.” Aiden’s voice made us both jump as he stalked into the kitchen looking like an Adonis that had just rolled out of bed but still looked hot as hell.

“Hey Cuz!” Kyle grinned up at Aiden as the older male shuffled to the coffee maker and poured himself a cup. “Where have you been all weekend?”

“Busy.”

“How predictably vague for you.” Kyle mocked. “Oh did Ellie tell you? Liam’s coming home?”

“Oh really?” Aiden raised an eyebrow at me as he sat down. Right. Next. To. Me. “Well that’s good news.”

I nodded, keeping my eyes on my toast as I picked at it. I could feel my cheeks heating up and my heart racing in my

chest. How did Alden manage to do this to me every time? Just keep calm, Ellle. Don’t forget what you promet

We should go or we’ll be late. Kyle sighed, standing up from his seat and pulling his bag onto his shoulder.

“Yeah, sure.” I nodded and quickly finished my breakfast.

I grabbed my coat as Kyle headed for the door. Just as he slipped out of view, Aiden’s hand found my coat, using it to tug me to him.

“Have a good day.” Aiden smirked before his thumb came up to wipe against the corner of my mouth.

I stared wide–eyed as he brought his thumb to his mouth, a small smudge of butter and strawberry jam on the pad before he sucked it away between his full lips. The act itself confused me and I couldn’t work out if I was embarrassed or shocked. Is it okay that I found that a little hot?
