His father’s words made everything clear to Charles.
Yes. That was the only explanation.
Camilla had always loved him deeply. After waking up from a five–year coma, she was afraid of being useless, of being abandoned. That’s why she was acting so strangely.
she
‘Hmph. She is really going all out to stay by my side. Interesting,‘ Charles wondered. He leaned back in his chair, completely relaxed now. He smirked. “Dad, I get it.”
David had just dropped Camilla off at home.
“Thanks for the ride, David,” said Camilla.
“No trouble at all, Mrs. Hawthorne,” David said sincerely. “I hope your eyes recover soon.”
Camilla smiled, “Thank you.”
David turned to leave, but after what happened at the company, he felt bad and turned back to comfort her. “Mrs. Hawthorne, most of the R&D staff were hired in the past few years. They don’t know you yet. But once they see what you’re capable of, they’ll feel lucky to work under you.”
He meant it. Not just because Camilla had helped him in the past, but because he truly knew her abilities.
To outsiders, it looked like Charles had boosted Uniteon Group’s value since becoming CEO. But David knew the truth–Camilla had laid the foundation.

Seven years ago, her key drug development helped Uniteon break into the pharmaceutical industry. The successful partnership with Westwide Pharmaceutical made them a top player.
And that was just the beginning.
David had heard of Camilla’s reputation long before meeting her–Yerinton University’s once–in–a–century genius.
He used to think that was an exaggeration. But after working with her, he realized it was an understatement.
Camilla could tell David wasn’t just being polite–he meant every word.
“Thank you, David. Truly,” Camilla smiled and said sincerely.
David gave a small bow, then remembered she couldn’t see. He scratched the back of his head awkwardly. “I’ll head back to the company now, Mrs. Hawthorne.”
“Okay.” Camilla nodded.
As Camilla turned around, she saw that the front door was already open. Mia was peeking out from behind it, sneakily taking photos of David’s back.
She must’ve been eavesdropping the whole time.
Camilla pretended not to notice and waved her cane, accidentally hitting Mia’s leg.
“Ow,” Mia yelped.
Camilla feigned surprise. “Mia? Why are you standing behind me so quietly? Are you hurt?”
The hit was real, and Mia was in pain, but she couldn’t admit she’d been

“I’m fine, Mrs. Hawthorne. I was just sweeping. I saw you through the window and came to open the door,” Mia said.
Camilla gave a kind reminder. “Be more careful next time. I can’t see. If you sneak up on me, I might hit you again.”
Mia forced a smile. “You’re right, Mrs. Hawthorne. I’ll be more careful.”
Camilla used her cane to guide herself inside and sat on the sofa. She asked Mia to cut some fruit.
As soon as Mia went into the kitchen, the landline rang.
Camilla picked it up. “Hello?”
On the other end was Ava’s excited voice.
“Camilla, it’s me,” she whispered, clearly hiding somewhere. “I tried calling your old work number, but it was disconnected. I thought I’d try your home line. Lucky me.”
Camilla smiled at Ava’s energy.
“My old number’s been inactive for five years. What’s up?” Camilla said.
“Camilla, I saved copies of all the documents related to the three drugs Ophelia’s team developed over the past five years. I just emailed it to you. Take a look. I swear, they look way too familiar,” said Ava.
Camilla sighed, “Ava, did you forget something?”
Ava paused. “Oh, right. You can’t see right now. Maybe ask someone you trust to read them to you, or we can meet up and I’ll explain everything.”
Someone called for Ava in the background.

“I’ll talk to you later, Camilla. Gotta go.” She hung up.
Camilla pulled out her phone and opened the email. As she scrolled
through the documents, her expression turned colder.
