Chapter 97 Good News, One After Another
Back then, it was because Ginny liked Chandler that she’d gone through with marrying him, even knowing he didn’t feel the same. She had seen this day coming for a long time–she just hadn’t expected it to end so… dramatically.
If you start something one–sided, you have to be ready to accept the weight of failure when it all falls apart.
And so, standing here at the end of that journey, Ginny didn’t blame anyone.
“Grandpa, please don’t say that,” she said gently. “Chandler simply doesn’t love me. That’s not a crime. This divorce… we’re just ending a marriage that never should’ve happened in the first place.
“I came today for two reasons. First, to thank you and Grandma for standing up for me yesterday–and for all the kindness you’ve shown me over the years. And second… to tell you in person that I won’t be able to come see you anymore. I hope you’ll take care of yourselves.”
Josh and his wife both felt a quiet ache settle in their hearts.
Ginny had been such a good granddaughter–in–law. Why couldn’t Chandler see it? Why had he chosen to fall for someone so full of lies?

But their grandson was a grown man now. They could guide him for a while–but not forever.
Ginny had already spent five years in this family, and she’d never once managed to win Chandler’s heart. If they kept trying to force the two together, it wouldn’t be love–it would be cruelty.
So as much as they cared for her, they understood. They couldn’t make her stay any longer.
The old woman took Ginny’s hand and gave it a gentle squeeze, sighing as she nodded her acceptance. “Even if you and Chandler are no longer married, you’ll always be our granddaughter. If you ever miss us, call. If you don’t want to come here to see us, we’ll go meet you somewhere.”
Ginny’s eyes reddened as she nodded, overwhelmed with gratitude for their understanding.
When she stepped out of the Pierce family house, a strange lightness settled over her.
Ryan, who had been waiting for her outside, smiled. “Now that you’re divorced, what’s next?”
Since the moment she married Chandler, her world had
revolved around two things–him, and the hospital. Now, both were gone. All she had left was her lab project.

And the lab’s workload had recently lightened. For the first time in a long time, she had the space to think. Maybe it was time to actually enjoy life for a bit.
“I’m going to give it some thought,” she said, voice almost playful.
Her tone made Ryan chuckle. “Good. Then think it through, and when you figure it out, let me know.”
He drove her back to her apartment before heading off himself. Work had piled up at the company, and if it weren’t for the urgency of Ginny’s situation, he wouldn’t have made the time to come here at all. Now that things had settled, he could finally turn his attention back to the office.
Ginny stepped into her apartment, took a long hot shower, and spent the entire afternoon curled up on the couch watching TV.
When she got hungry, she ordered takeout. When she got sleepy, she went to bed.
In all her twenty–something years, she couldn’t remember a more relaxing afternoon.
She slept soundly through the night, and the next morning, she woke up feeling refreshed. In a rare burst of good mood, she even put on a bit of light makeup before heading out.

At the lab, Professor Edward had good news waiting for them.
“There’s an international medical conference early next month,” he announced. “I’ll be bringing all of you along.”
Ginny had heard of this conference–it was a big one, filled with top names in the field. Normally, students like them wouldn’t stand a chance of attending.
But Professor Edward was one of the keynote guests. And as his students, they were fortunate enough to be taken along.
As soon as the announcement was made, the whole lab lit up with excitement. Everyone rushed to thank the professor, promising to make the most of the opportunity.
Once the meeting wrapped up, Professor Edward sent Reese and Wendy back to the lab, but when Ginny started to leave with them, he called her back.
Wendy glanced over her shoulder, eyes narrowing with jealousy as she watched Ginny stay behind.
“Professor, did you need something?” Ginny asked politely, thinking he had questions about the experiment. She reached for her laptop to pull up the data.
But the professor shook his head. “Not about the experiment. I wanted to talk to you about the conference.

“You’ve been focused on refining those 3D printing techniques, right? One of the experts attending the conference specializes in that. Try to talk with him while you’re there. It might help move your project forward.”
Ginny’s eyes lit up. “Really? That’s great news. I’ll prepare some materials over the next few days so I can ask the right questions. Thank you, Professor. This really helps a lot.”
Wendy, watching from her desk, kept glancing toward the office. Her face darkened further when she saw Ginny nodding gratefully to Professor Edward.
“The professor’s so biased,” she muttered. “Every time there’s a good opportunity, he thinks of Ginny first. Reese, aren’t you supposed to be his favorite student? How come he didn’t ask you to stay back this time?”
