Chapter 96 Agreed to Divorce

Ginny looked at Chandler, her expression laced with quiet scorn. Right now, he looked just like the man she first met all those years ago–yet somehow, not at all.
Back then, he’d been upright, brave, the kind of person who would risk his life to save others without hesitation.
Now, for the sake of defending someone he liked, he’d tossed away every principle he once stood for.
This version of him felt like a stranger. And he disappointed her deeply.
As Ginny stood silent, Mrs. Wheeler seized the moment and turned to Chandler, her voice tight with anger.
“Because of you, Melody’s reputation is ruined. And now, her body too,” she said, pressing the words like a verdict. “Chandler, if you won’t give Melody an explanation today—if you won’t give the Wheeler family an explanation–I promise you, we won’t let this go.”
She was using the moment to force a decision out of him.
Ginny saw it. And for once, she thought–maybe this was her chance.
She stepped forward. “Chandler, you’ve never loved me, and you

never had any intention of making our marriage work. We don’t need to keep dragging this out. Let’s get a divorce. I’ll step aside. You can marry Melody then.”
Chandler had been too preoccupied with how to deal with Mrs. Wheeler to see this coming. Ginny’s words hit him like a slap.
He turned to her, eyes bloodshot with disbelief. She really wanted to leave him that badly? So badly she’d side with the Wheeler family just to force him to make a decision?
Hadn’t she once said she cared about him–over and over again?
And now what? The moment she stopped caring, she couldn’t wait to cut ties and walk away?
Fine. She wanted out? He’d give it to her.
He bit down hard, jaw clenched, words forming in his throat- but still, he couldn’t quite bring himself to say them.
At that moment, his mother stepped in, tugging gently at his
arm.
“Chandler, a marriage without love will only end in disaster,” she said. “Think about it. How many fights has this family gone through because of your situation? Your father and I are still holding up, but your grandparents… they’re not young anymore. Just last time, one of these arguments put your grandfather in the hospital.

“The doctor was clear–he can’t take another shock like that. If you already know who you love and who you don’t, then make the call now. It’ll be better for you, and for both of them.”
Chandler stayed silent.
Melody stood off to the side, her eyes reddening with tears. “Chandler… you really don’t want to marry me?”
Her voice trembled as the tears began to fall. “It’s okay. If you don’t want to, I won’t force you. But I need you to know–I like you, I really do. I’ve never thought of marrying anyone else, not in this lifetime. Not now, not ever.”
She wiped her tears and gently pulled at her mother’s hand, preparing to head back into the hospital room.
Melody’s mom, fuming, shot Chandler a fierce look before following.
It was then that Chandler turned his gaze back to Ginny.
“You want a divorce?” he said coldly. “Fine. I’ll give it to you. Just don’t come to regret it.”
With that, he brushed past her and caught up with Melody, helping her back into the room.
His parents followed.

The hallway, which had been loud with confrontation just moments earlier, now fell into complete silence.

Ginny stood where she was, unmoving, her tears falling in thick, heavy drops. She didn’t even know why she was crying.
Maybe it was grief for the girl she used to be–the one who loved recklessly, without reservation.
Back then, she’d believed that as long as she was sincere enough, she’d get what she hoped for.
But reality had shown her something different. In love, sincerity meant nothing. Logic meant nothing.
Either someone loved you, or they didn’t. And when they didn’t, there was nothing you could do to change it.
“Are you okay?”
Ryan’s voice broke the quiet. He’d taken her from the hospital, and now they were sitting together in the car.
“I’m fine,” Ginny said softly, shaking her head. “Can you take me
to the Pierce estate?”
Ryan figured she must’ve left something there and nodded, pulling onto the road.

At the Pierce estate, Josh had just woken up. He was chatting with his wife about everything that had happened at the hospital carlier.
When they saw Ginny walk through the door, he immediately waved her over, concerned. “Come here, child. Did anyone give you trouble?”
Ginny shook her head, forcing a faint smile.
“No. I’m okay. Grandpa, Grandma….I actually came to tell you something today.”
She hadn’t planned to. She’d been worried it would be too much for them to take. But they had always treated her so kindly. She
didn’t want to lie to them.
They had stood by her through this whole ordeal. At the very least, she owed them the truth–and a thank you.
“But you have to promise me,” she said, voice soft, “don’t get upset.”
Josh and his wife exchanged a glance. They already knew.
Josh was the first to speak. “You’re getting a divorce, aren’t you?”
Ginny blinked, surprised. “Grandpa… how did you know?”

The two elders let out a long sigh in unison.

“After everything that’s happened,” Josh said, “even if you had the patience to keep enduring, I doubt you’d want to anymore.
“And the Wheeler family isn’t going to let this go. They’ll want something in return. Even if Chandler didn’t want the divorce before, he doesn’t have a choice now. It’s just… I’m sorry you had to go through all of this.”
