Chapter 85 So Damn Biased

Melody had been wailing like she was in unbearable pain. But the moment Josh spoke, her eyes shot open and darted toward the corner surveillance camera.
From where Ginny stood, she caught every bit of the movement. And just as she was quietly sneering at how sloppy Melody had been in her scheming, the butler walked over with a tablet linked to the security feed.
He tapped into the footage right there in front of everyone, switching to the camera at the staircase.
While Melody shifted nervously and Josh waited with hopeful eyes, the butler announced, “Melody fell just outside the camera’s range. That corner is a blind spot. There’s no footage.”
“What?” Josh muttered in shock.
Just like that, the only evidence that could’ve cleared Ginny’s
name was gone.
Melody let out a relieved sigh. Knowing that Ginny had no proof now, she cried even louder.
“Mom, save my baby! If I lose this child, I don’t want to live
either!”
Chandler was crouched at her side. Hearing her cries, he quickly

spoke up. “I’m right here. Don’t worry. You and the baby will be fine.”
Pale–faced, Melody clutched his hand weakly. “Don’t blame Ginny,” she said, tears welling up at just the right moment. “She just loves you too much. She’s clinging to your marriage, so she can’t stand me or this baby.”
Her voice trembled, and when she mentioned the child, a perfect tear rolled down her cheek. The performance was so flawless that if Ginny didn’t already know it was fake, even she might’ve believed it.
As soon as Melody finished speaking, Kevin lunged toward Ginny, eyes burning with fury.
But the butler quickly stepped in front of him. “Sir, please calm down. Right now, what matters most is the safety of Melody and the baby.”
“That’s right,” another voice chimed in. “You can deal with her later. For now, we need to focus on saving Melody and the child.”
The butler had already called for an ambulance. There was a well–equipped private hospital just five kilometers away. By now, it should’ve been close.
But the Wheeler family still felt it was taking too long. They were shouting into the phone, demanding the ambulance hurry,

threatening to hold the hospital responsible if anything happened to Melody or the baby.

Ginny stood there, watching their theatrics, her face unreadable.
“Did everyone forget?” she said quietly. “The Pierce family has a live–in doctor.”
After Josh’s sudden illness last time, Chandler’s father had hired a private physician to stay in the house.
Everyone had been so caught up in panic that they forgot. When Ginny reminded them, Josh immediately snapped out of it.
“Hurry! Go get Dr. Deacon!”
“But he’s a cardiologist,” Melody’s voice rang out, suddenly strong and clear.
Just moments ago, she’d looked like she might pass out. But hearing Josh call for Dr. Deacon, she suddenly perked up, her voice full of energy. Her body even rose slightly from its slumped position.
Mrs. Wheeler, who had been holding her daughter close the entire time, noticed the change. She saw everything–heard everything.
And when she caught Ginny’s knowing gaze, she jumped in quickly, “He’s not an OB–GYN. Even if he comes, he can’t help.

Things are already chaotic enough here. Let’s not bring in more confusion.”
Ginny caught the flicker of panic between the mother and daughter. She turned her eyes toward Josh and, as if casually, said, “Just now I thought I heard Melody’s voice. Sounded pretty strong. Not like someone who’s seriously ill.”
“Ginny, really? At a time like this, you’re still twisting words?” Chandler snapped.
“This is all your fault! You ruined Grandpa’s birthday, and now Melody’s hurt. You show no guilt–none! And now you’re accusing her in her weakest, most desperate moment? What kind of heartless person are you?”
Heartless?
If she had no heart, would she have stayed by his side for five years? Would she have endured lie after lie, betrayal after betrayal, without blowing everything up?
Really, who was the heartless one here?
Ginny opened her mouth to respond, but just then, the sound of sirens cut through the air. The ambulance had arrived.
Chandler and Mrs. Wheeler climbed into the ambulance with Melody. Melody’s father and her three brothers followed in their
cars.

The incident had happened in the Pierce household, and the child in Melody’s belly might very well be a Pierce. They couldn’t pretend nothing had happened.
After the Wheeler family left, Chandler’s parents prepared to head to the hospital as well.
“I’ll come with you,” Josh said suddenly.
They’d been planning to have him rest at home. He was old. This day had already been too much.
Whatever the Wheeler family decided to do next, it wouldn’t be pleasant. Once Melody made it through the night, there’d be talks–tough ones.
Chandler’s father worried Josh wouldn’t be able to take it.
But the old man refused to stay behind. No matter how they tried to dissuade him, he wouldn’t listen. He even grabbed Ginny and insisted she sit in the front with him.
Chandler’s mother, watching them get into the car, grumbled under his breath, “Dad is so damn biased.”
