Chapter 80 Woke Up
Lucky Draw
“The sun’s so bright out there… it must be past eight, huh?”
Ginny stirred, her voice still raspy from sleep. She glanced toward the nightstand, reaching for the clock.
Ryan walked over with a bowl of medicine and, seeing what she was looking for, handed her the clock.
She looked at the time and froze.
Three in the afternoon.
Her eyes widened in disbelief. “I didn’t even request leave… Oh no, oh no… Professor Edward hates it when someone just disappears without a word.”
She started fumbling around for her phone, trying to call and explain, but Ryan gently stopped her and said, “Do you really think I’m that unreliable? Relax. I called and requested leave for you the night before last.”
She blinked. “Night before last?”
Wasn’t she only sick last night?
Why would he say the night before that? Had he mixed up the days?

“You’ve been asleep for almost two full days. If you hadn’t woken up today, I was going to call an ambulance.”

Seeing the confusion in her eyes, he added softly, “That’s why I said the night before last.“,
Ginny stared at him, still trying to wrap her head around it. She had just had a fever. How had it turned into something this
serious?
“The doctor said you’ve been under a lot of stress lately,” Ryan explained. “You didn’t let any of it out, so your body took the hit when the fever hit. That’s why you’ve been so exhausted. It’s normal. You just need some rest and you’ll be fine.”
She nodded slowly. If she’d been out for two nights, that meant today was Saturday. And Saturday-
It was Josh’s birthday.
As she remembered what had happened that day at the mall, a trace of cold mockery flickered across her pale face.
“Drink some porridge first,” Ryan said, helping her sit up. He handed her the bowl carefully, worried she might be too weak to hold it.
Once she finished, he coaxed her into taking her medicine.
Watching him so quietly and patiently take care of her, Ginny

couldn’t help but think of their childhood.

Back then, she hated taking medicine. But her health had always been fragile, and she was constantly sick.
So whenever she threw a tantrum and refused her meds, it was always him, coaxing her gently, just like this.
All these years had passed in a blink, and yet, he was still here.
“Rest a bit more,” he said. “I’ll cook something nice for you tonight.”
She opened her mouth to say something, hesitated, then shifted her tone. “Thanks, Ryan.”
He reached over and gently ruffled her hair. “Silly girl. We’re the closest people we have in this world. Don’t thank me. If I ever got sick, would you just ignore me?”
Ginny laughed softly. “No. I’d bring you tea and water. I’d even let you vent all your frustration on me.”
He smiled. “Sure, sure. You’re the best. Alright, rest up. If you really want to get back to work soon, then focus on getting better first.”
Once she drifted back to sleep, Ryan quietly got up and went to the study next door to handle some work.

On the desk sat two phones–his and Ginny’s.
Lucky Draw
When her phone buzzed, he glanced at the screen, saw the caller ID, and flipped it face down without answering. Then he continued working.
*****
Chandler had been calling Ginny non–stop since lunchtime.
It was nearly four o’clock now, and still, she hadn’t picked up- not once. She hadn’t even replied to any of his texts.
What was she trying to do?
Was she seriously going to throw a tantrum over what happened two days ago—on his grandfather’s birthday?
She wasn’t a child anymore. Couldn’t she act a little more
mature?
“Chandler, who are you calling? Come over and help greet the guests,” his mother called.
The “guests” were the Wheeler family.
Chandler’s mother had a good impression of the Wheelers. But Josh had made it clear–the Pierce family only recognized Ginny as Chandler’s wife. No one else.

So even if Chandler’s mother liked Melody or the Wheeler family, she didn’t dare show it. When the Wheelers arrived, she didn’t want to overstep, and asked Chandler to entertain them himself.
Chandler didn’t feel like going, but his mother had already said it–he had no choice.

By six–thirty, guests began arriving one by one at the Pierce estate. Chandler’s parents stood on either side of Josh, personally welcoming everyone.
They tried more than once to persuade the old man to rest while they took over the reception, but he refused every time.
Chandler could tell–his grandfather was waiting for Ginny.
So he tried calling her again. Still no answer.
He was so frustrated, he nearly threw his phone.
Chandler: [Ginny, I don’t care where you are or what kind of
mood you’re in–just come back now.]
Chandler: [Grandpa has always treated you well. Are you really going to ruin his birthday like this?]
Chandler: [Call me back.]

By 7:30 p.m., every invited guest had arrived–except for Ginny.
But no one dared suggest starting the celebration without her.
Thankfully, Josh wasn’t the type to lose control in front of so many people. At exactly 7:35, he finally gave the signal, and the birthday banquet officially began.
Of everyone in attendance, the happiest by far was Melody.
She wore a custom couture dress from the current season and deliberately walked with one hand resting gently on her still–flat stomach, drawing the attention of every guest she passed.
The murmurs of admiration followed her everywhere she went.
