Chapter 79 Ginny Rescued
“Mmm… mmph…”

Outside the storeroom, the two employees glanced nervously at cach other, then at the tightly locked door.
Neither of them had ever done anything this shady before. Panic churned in their stomachs, and neither knew what to do.
“Is this considered… kidnapping?” one of them whispered.
The other stared at the storeroom door, speechless. The first one continued, “If that woman calls the police, are we accessories? What if we get arrested?”
“No way,” the other said quickly, shaking her head as if trying to will the thought away. “Mr. Wheeler was the one who pushed her in. He’s the one who locked the door. We didn’t do anything.”
Afraid her coworker might say something else foolish, she added under her breath, “You’ve got a family to support, right? You really wanna lose this job?”
“I don’t.”
“It’s just one night. Nothing’s gonna happen. We’ll close up
and
go.”

They changed out of their uniforms, locked the store, and slipped away like nothing had happened.

Inside the storeroom, Ginny struggled with everything she had. After a painful effort, she finally managed to spit out the cloth that had been stuffed in her mouth. She immediately tried using her phone’s voice assistant to call Ryan, but the signal was weak. Every call failed.
She couldn’t afford to sit and wait.
So while she kept redialing, she also began rubbing the sleeves tied around her wrists against the corner of a table. In the small, scaled space, she clenched her jaw, forcing herself to stay awake, to stay sharp, and to keep going.
Half an hour later, her call finally connected.
The moment Ryan’s voice came through the phone, she burst
into tears.
“Ryan… help me.”
Ryan was in the middle of a business dinner. When he heard Ginny’s voice, his expression turned grim in an instant. Without another word, he handed off his responsibilities to his assistant, apologized to the clients, and rushed down to the parking
garage.
“Ginny, don’t be scared. I’m on my way. I already have your

location. Even if the call drops, I’ll still find you.”

He spoke calmly, reassuring her, answering the unspoken fears. she hadn’t had time to voice. On the other end, Ginny’s frantic breathing began to slow.
Just over twenty minutes later, Ryan arrived at the mall—just in time, as the security guards were preparing to lock the doors for the night.
He strode up, voice firm. “My sister’s trapped inside. I have to get her out. If something happens to her, can your team afford to take the blame?”
The security guards had just finished their rounds and hadn’t seen anyone inside. At first, they thought he was lying. But then he turned on the speakerphone.
Ginny’s faint voice spilled out.
“There’s really someone trapped inside!” one of them blurted, panic setting in.
The captain turned to the guard responsible for the second floor and snapped, “Didn’t I tell you to check carefully?”
Ryan didn’t waste time listening to the reprimand. He was
already running toward the stairs. The captain immediately sent someone to retrieve the backup key for the boutique.

“I’m here, Ginny. Don’t be afraid.”

He reached the store and saw that the front door was locked. Without thinking, he grabbed a nearby fire hydrant and raised it, ready to smash the lock,
The captain rushed over and stopped him. “Wait–we’ve got the key!”
This wasn’t something that could be explained away. If the lock was broken, the store’s management would definitely come after
them.
Ryan scoffed. “They locked a customer in the storeroom. That’s kidnapping. I’m not the one who should be worried about getting sued.”
The moment the door opened, he rushed in.
When he found the storeroom also locked, his patience snapped. He grabbed a stool and smashed the door open.
Inside, Ginny looked a mess, but she was awake.
His heart, which had been strung tight with anxiety, finally
eased.
He crossed the room in a few long strides, wrapped his arms around her, and held her tightly.

“I’m here. You’re safe now. Let’s go home.”

Outside, he bought her a cup of hot coffee, hoping to warm her up. But the moment she took a sip, she doubled over and vomited.
Worried, Ryan touched her forehead. Her skin burned under his palm.
“You have a fever. Why didn’t you say anything earlier?”
He scolded himself for not noticing sooner, even as he drove her straight to the hospital.
Ginny, exhausted, just wanted to sleep.
“I’m fine. Just cold. If you take me home and give me some meds, I’ll be okay after a night’s rest. No need for the hospital.
It’s such a hassle.”
But to Ryan, taking care of her was never a hassle. Besides, in her current condition, he couldn’t let her go home alone.
Seeing how tired she was, he reassured her gently, “Don’t worry. You just rest. I’ll take care of the rest.”
With someone beside her she could trust, Ginny curled up against the seat, found a comfortable spot, and quickly drifted off.

She didn’t remember how she got to the ER, or when they hooked up the IV.
By the time she woke up, she was back in her own room.
