Chapter 77 It Really Was You

Chandler instinctively glanced toward the fitting room but said nothing.
Kevin caught the flicker of hesitation in his eyes, and though a trace of dissatisfaction crossed his own expression, his tone remained light and breezy.
“Chandler, my sister’s kind of over this store. Why don’t you take her to the one down the street?”
He didn’t wait for Chandler to respond before ushering the two of them out.
Inside, Ginny had no idea what was happening outside. Once the store quieted down, she assumed everyone had left. Holding the dress in her hands, she drew back the curtain, ready to return it to the staff—only to lock eyes with Kevin, still standing by the entrance.
His face shifted the moment he saw her.
“So it really was you.”
His voice was sharp with accusation.
“You told me you’d divorce Chandler. You said you wouldn’t meet with him in private again. Ginny, you broke your word.”

Kevin hated people who couldn’t keep their promises. And more than that, he despised liars–especially women who wore honesty like a mask.
Ginny, to him, was exactly that. So now, he didn’t bother hiding the disgust in his eyes.
Under the lights, he caught her side profile and felt an eerie familiarity, though he quickly dismissed it as a trick of his memory. He didn’t pause before launching into another round of venom.
“I thought you were supposed to be above all this. Didn’t you say you didn’t care about money or the Pierce family’s status?
“And now here you are, out shopping at luxury boutiques with him, even after you know Melody is pregnant with his baby. Ginny, I’ve seen your type a hundred times.”
“Honestly, you’re not even that good at playing the game. If I weren’t worried my sister might see you and get upset, I’d drag you out and show the world what kind of person you really are.”
The more he spoke, the sharper his words became. Ginny’s expression turned increasingly cold.
Did the Wheeler family really think she was made of clay— something to be poked, insulted, and shaped at will?
Every time she encountered them, they spared no effort in

tearing her down. Was that what made them feel powerful? Elevated?
She’d seen too many people like this growing up. The more you reasoned with them, the more they thought you were weak. The only thing that rattled people like Kevin was being ignored.
So she held back her anger, gave him a cold, taunting glance,
and turned toward the back exit.
But she’d barely taken a step before Kevin grabbed her wrist. “You’re not going anywhere.”
He was afraid she might run into Melody outside.
Melody had been feeling unwell for days. Getting her to leave the house today had taken no small effort, and their parents were constantly worried. The last thing he needed was for Ginny to ruin her mood.
“Kevin, you’re crossing a line. This is a public store, not your house.” Her voice was tight with fury. “Let go of me. If you don’t, I’ll call the police.”
She yanked at his hand, but before she could free herself, he glanced sideways–and his eyes suddenly lit up.
Without a word, he shoved her toward a nearby storage room and slammed the door shut behind her.

As Ginny screamed, he rushed to muffle her voice, grabbing a dress from a rack and tying her up. Then he stuffed another piece of fabric into her mouth.
“Got a lock?” he asked one of the store employees.
The staff froze–half–nodding, half–shaking their heads in terror.
Kevin gave them a chilly smile. “If you all keep quiet, I’ll buy a hundred thousand’s worth of merchandise today. But if you don’t cooperate… don’t count on the Wheeler or Pierce families ever shopping here again.”
Those names meant survival in this city. Between the two families, they made up nearly half of the store’s revenue. Losing either one could tank their sales–losing both could mean firings, pay cuts, no bonuses.
The staff looked at one another. No one wanted trouble, but no one wanted to lose their jobs either.
Still, one of them gathered the courage to voice concern. “Sir, this feels dangerous…”
Kevin waved a hand, brushing it off with a casual grin. “Relax. I’m just teaching her a lesson. Come back this time tomorrow and let her out.”
“You can give her some food if she needs it, but don’t let her escape. You know what’ll happen if you do.”

With that, the lock was handed over.
Kevin clicked the door shut, pocketed the key, and walked off humming to himself, as though he hadn’t just imprisoned
someone.
When he reached the next store, he found Melody still debating between two dresses.
“Melody, you’re so beautiful–great figure too,” he said lightly. “You could wear a burlap sack and still turn heads on the street. Stop overthinking. If you like both, just get them both.”
As he spoke, he handed his credit card to the staff.
Melody hesitated. “Kevin, I’ve got money. Besides, I’ve got a boyfriend now. I don’t need you paying for me anymore.”
She glanced shyly at Chandler as she said it.
Chandler neither confirmed nor denied the relationship, but he did take out his wallet and hand his card to the cashier.
