Chapter 76 Overheard
Lucky Draw
“Hi, I’m Ginny. This is my first time visiting your store.” Ginny smiled politely at the sales associate. “The woman you mentioned, I know her. We may be similar in height and build, but we’re not the same person.”
With that, Ginny turned away and began browsing through the racks, leaving Chandler and the awkwardly blushing
saleswoman behind.
When the woman had mistaken her for someone else, Chandler’s heart had tensed up. His first instinct had been fear–not the fear of embarrassment, but the kind of fear that came from not knowing how a woman might react when she refuses to let something go.
He hated that kind of scene. Too much trouble..
So before Ginny could explode, he’d already started mentally drafting an explanation. But to his surprise, she didn’t confront him. She didn’t even glance in his direction.
She simply greeted the saleswoman with grace and walked away to look at clothes.
Her indifference made him uneasy.
And, somehow, it hurt.

In the past, she would’ve definitely caused a fuss over something like this–gotten mad, demanded answers. Back then, he used to wish she’d act calm and rational for once.
But now that she was, now that she’d become exactly the kind of woman he thought he wanted… he didn’t feel any satisfaction at all.
He took a few steps toward her, meaning to ask why she was suddenly acting this way, but before he could speak, she walked right past him with a dress in hand and disappeared into the fitting room.
Left alone with the saleswoman, he barely noticed when she gave a quick apology and scurried behind the counter.
Another staff member, who had long disliked her coworker’s obsequiousness, smiled faintly at the slip–up. That was karma, and maybe–if she played it right–this sale could be hers instead.
“Do you have this in long sleeves?”
Ginny held up a short–sleeved dress. She had planned to layer it with a coat when outside, but she’d have to take that off once inside the Pierce family’s villa, and the house was always a bit chilly. She got cold easily. Style could take a back seat to
warmth.
Still, she was the Pierce family’s daughter–in–law–for now. Even

if the divorce was looming, she owed it to herself to look good, but not freeze.
Surprisingly, the store did carry a long–sleeved version. The saleswoman brought it over, and Ginny headed back into the fitting room.
A few minutes later, she stepped out wearing the form–fitting dress. It hugged her silhouette in all the right places, simple and clean. The mirror reflected a version of her rarely seen–no lab coat, no practical sneakers. Just a woman, effortlessly elegant.
Chandler’s gaze lingered. He’d never seen her like this.
She usually kept things low–key. No makeup, no heels, no dresses. And yet here she was, looking like someone entirely new. Or maybe she’d been this beautiful all along, and he just hadn’t been paying attention.
He couldn’t look away.
But Ginny wasn’t convinced. The dress was flattering, yes, but it didn’t feel like her. It was too body–hugging, too outside her usual style. She turned and asked the staff for a few more options.
Chandler jumped in before the woman could respond. “Who says you’re not right for it? I think no one could wear it better than you.”

He said it impulsively. And even though he believed it, he also thought–if she really didn’t want to wear it out, then fine. He’d buy it anyway, just so she could wear it for him at home.
Before that thought could settle too deeply, he urged the staff to bring her a few more dresses.
Just as Ginny disappeared into the fitting room again, Melody and her second brother, Kevin, walked into the store.
Chandler had taken a seat near the fitting area. The moment Melody entered, her eyes locked on him. Surprise flickered across her face, followed quickly by suspicion.
“What are you doing here this late?” she asked, scanning the
room.
It was a women’s boutique.
He’d refused to go shopping with her countless times, always saying he hated this kind of thing. Yet here he was, looking relaxed.
Did that mean he was here with someone? Was it Ginny?
Her expression soured instantly. “Didn’t you just tell me you were too tired to go out tonight?”
“I…” Chandler faltered. He hadn’t wanted to go shopping–with her. But that wasn’t something he could say to her face. He

stammered, trying to come up with an excuse.

Kevin noticed the tension and shot a quick glance toward the fitting rooms. Then he smiled and turned to his sister.
“Alright, don’t get upset. Be careful–you’re pregnant, remember? Besides, Chandler already agreed to marry you. He’s a man of his word. You really think he’d be out here with another woman buying clothes?”
Inside the fitting room, Ginny stood frozen, one hand gripping her phone tightly.
She’d heard them the moment they walked in. She hadn’t even started changing. At first, she’d considered slipping out unnoticed through the side door–there was another exit beside the fitting area, leading out the back.
She could’ve left. She should’ve left.
But she hesitated.
She didn’t know why. Maybe curiosity. Maybe something else.
Now, standing there, hearing them talk, she regretted it. Regretted not walking away the moment she had the chance. Because now she was hearing things she hadn’t wanted to hear.
“Chandler’s grandfather’s birthday is coming up,” Kevin continued. “As the Pierce family’s future granddaughter–in–law,

of course you have to attend. You’ve been saying none of your old clothes fit lately, right? You’ve gained a little weight.
“I bet Chandler came to pick out a surprise for you. Isn’t that right, Chandler?”
