Chapter 75 Mistaken Identity
**Lucky Draw
After dinner at a restaurant near Ginny’s place, Ryan dropped her off and headed back to the office
She had just stepped into her apartment and was about to kick off her shoes and change clothes when her phone rang again.
For a second, she thought it was the mysterious caller from the night before. Her hand tensed instinctively as she reached for it –but then she saw Chandler’s name flash across the screen,
What could be possibly want?
It had only been a few days since she last saw him, but it already felt like half a lifetime ago. She had almost managed to push him to the back of her mind. But somehow, he always knew just when to reappear–just as she was beginning to let go offering up a flicker of ambiguous hope.
Did he even realize how exhausting that was?
Before she could speak, his voice came cold and clipped through the line, “Come downstairs. I’m waiting.”
She opened her mouth to say no, but he’d already hung up.
That commanding tone–she hated it. Hated being summoned
like that.

She considered calling him back to reject him outright, but when she tried, his phone was already turned off.
Of course. Classic Chandler–always knowing exactly how to corner her.
Fuming, Ginny grabbed her keys and headed back out.
When she reached the front of her building, she saw him leaning casually against his car, scrolling on his phone like he didn’t have a care in the world. He looked relaxed–good mood, clearly.
She approached him and said coolly, “What do you want? Say it quickly. I have a paper to finish.”
He hadn’t expected that tone from her. It annoyed him.
“You know what week it is?” he asked, narrowing his eyes.
Ginny blinked. What?
They were on the verge of divorce. Why would she still care about the Pierce family’s calendar?
He saw the confusion flash in her eyes and immediately lost his temper. “Don’t forget–we’re still married. As long as that’s the case, you’re still Mrs. Pierce. And that means my grandfather is your grandfather too.

“He’s been nothing but kind to you these past few years. All he wants is to celebrate his birthday with the whole family. You wouldn’t really be so heartless as to spoil that for him, would you?”
Ginny hadn’t planned on going, but she couldn’t deny that the old man had treated her well. If he genuinely wanted her there… maybe it deserved some thought.
“Get in,” Chandler said.
He didn’t wait for an answer. He simply reached out, nudging her toward the passenger seat.
Ginny instinctively resisted.
But he didn’t let go. His expression darkened as he picked her up outright, placing her in the seat before buckling the belt himself.
As she turned her head in frustration, her mouth brushed lightly -accidentally–across his cheek.
Like wind grazing skin.
Chandler’s thoughts went blank for a moment. He froze, momentarily disoriented. Something inside him stirred and, without thinking, he leaned in.
But before he could reach her, Ginny turned her head away,

expression flat and unreadable.
Lucky Draw
It was the first time–since they’d gotten married–that he’d ever initiated closeness.
It was also the first time she’d ever rejected him.
And somehow, that made his chest tighten.
He hated the feeling of things slipping out of his control. Slamming the door shut, he walked around to the driver’s side, slid in, and said stiffly, “Sit tight. I’m taking you to buy a dress.”
“I can get one on my own,” she replied.
He turned to look at her. “Do you even have money?”
She was about to say she still had some savings. But then she remembered who he was, who his family was, and glanced down at her wallet. The words died in her throat.
Still, she didn’t want to give in so easily. After a beat, she asked, “Must be a slow day for you. Are you taking me now so you can take Melody later? If that’s the case, you better keep track of which stores you visit. Wouldn’t want to buy us matching outfits
again.
“I don’t really care, to be honest. But with the way her family treats me these days, I doubt they’d appreciate us wearing the same thing.”

Even Chandler, dense as he could be, caught the sarcasm laced through her voice.
He wanted to explain the last time they’d accidentally matched, to tell her it hadn’t meant anything–but looking at the disgust on her face, he knew there was no point. She wouldn’t believe him.
So instead, he simply said, “I’ll keep that in mind.”
Ginny turned away, lips pressed tight, refusing to speak again.
The store he brought her to was one of the city’s most upscale luxury boutiques—the kind Ginny would never set foot in on her
own.
He walked in like he owned the place, totally at ease. She followed, uncomfortable from the moment she stepped inside.
This was it, she realized. This was why they’d never work.
They were never meant to be in the same world. And the sad part was… she was only realizing it now.
No wonder things turned out the way they did.
“This one,” Chandler said, casually choosing a store.
He walked in first.

The staff instantly recognized him and rushed over with eager smiles. A salesperson, spotting Ginny a few steps behind, assumed she was the same woman who’d come with him before.
“Oh! Melody!” the woman beamed. “You and your boyfriend really are something else. He just brought you in for the new arrivals-”
She stopped mid–sentence.
The moment hung heavy.
She’d meant to flatter, but her words landed on the wrong
target.
The air turned thick with silence. Everyone felt it. The mistake was obvious.
