Chapter 74 Morning Sickness
Lucky Draw
Just as Ginny set her phone down and turned back to the cutting board, it rang again.
Same number.
Her brow tightened. With a sigh, she picked it up, irritation already sharpening her voice. “What do you want now?”
The voice on the other end was distorted, altered. “Get divorced. Otherwise, you’ll be the next one kicked out of the lab. You care about this opportunity, don’t you? So focus on your studies. Why keep clinging to a man who doesn’t love you?”
Clinging? Ginny had lost count of how many times she’d explained it to the Wheeler family–she wasn’t the one refusing the divorce. She never had been. And yet no one believed her, no matter how clearly she tried to make them see.
And now they were resorting to this–coercion, intimidation. It made her blood boil.
She hung up.
But before she could even put the phone down properly, a text came through. This time, they were threatening Ryan’s
company.
His business had only just begun recovering after being gutted

by the Wheelers. It wouldn’t survive another hit. That thought alone made Ginny stiffen.
She tapped to call back.
The voice picked up immediately, smug. “So, turns out you care more about Ryan than your job at the lab. Well then, hurry up and get divorced. Once you leave Chandler, you can do whatever you want. No one will bother you again.”
But this time, Ginny didn’t stay silent. She cut the voice off. “You’re with the Wheelers, aren’t you? You people act like you don’t care about anything, like you’re untouchable. And now, you won’t even let me hear your real voice?
“You’re always going on about your status, how respected the Wheelers are, how much you care about appearances—but from where I’m standing, you have no line you won’t cross.
“You’re helping your daughter, or sister, force her way in as a mistress. You don’t just turn a blind eye, you actively help her. What kind of family does that?
“If this is what it means to be rich and powerful, then I’d rather stay ordinary. At least I don’t have to sell out my soul.”
She waited, quietly, for the response.
“You’re wrong,” the voice replied calmly. “I’m not from the Wheeler family. And don’t waste your time trying to guess who I

am–you won’t.

“Just do what I said. Otherwise, what I warned you about will start happening, one by one. My patience isn’t endless, Ginny. Don’t make me wait too long.”
The call ended.
Ginny stared at the phone in her hand, stunned.
Not a Wheeler? Then who? Who else had she crossed that would
want so badly for Melody to become Chandler’s wife?
She sat for a long while, thinking, but nothing came to her.
At last, she faked agreement just to end the call and hung up.
The entire exchange killed her appetite.
She slid the beef back into the fridge and opted to boil some potatoes and eggs instead. As she ate, she thought back over the last few weeks, trying to figure out who she could’ve angered, and how that person might be connected to Melody.
The next day, after work, she’d just stepped out of the lab when she saw Ryan waiting.
Her heart skipped.
Had something happened at his company?

She hurried over, worried. “Ryan, is everything okay at the company? Why’d you come pick me up? If something’s wrong, please don’t keep it from me.
“I may not understand business, but I can still be there with you. And… I’ve gotten a lot better at cooking. Once you’re free, I’ll make something nice for you.”
Ryan looked at her curiously, surprised by the concern. He asked gently if something had happened. Ginny hesitated but didn’t mention the call from the night before. She brushed it off, saying she was just worried about him.
He watched her for a while, as if trying to read the truth in her face. When he was satisfied, he drove them off to dinner.
On the way, he brought up something he’d heard.
“I heard Melody’s been having terrible morning sickness lately. The Wheeler brothers have all gone back to look after her. Their parents too–they haven’t even been going to the office much.”
Morning sickness?
Ginny felt her stomach turn. Melody wasn’t even pregnant. How could she pretend for this long without feeling sick herself?
“What?” Ryan nearly slammed the brakes. “She’s not pregnant?”

His shock mirrored what Ginny had felt when she first found out. So when she saw his reaction, it didn’t surprise her.
“It was Kelly who told me,” she explained. “She overheard Melody talking to a friend—by accident.”
Ryan exhaled slowly, gripping the wheel tighter.
“If she’s faking a pregnancy just to force a marriage… even if she gets what she wants, what is she going to do about the baby later?”
Ginny’s expression cooled.
“She’s lied once. However, she plans to cover it up… that’s her problem, not mine.”
After everything that had happened, Ginny realized she was really over it.
Now, when someone mentioned Melody or Chandler, her heart didn’t twist anymore. Not like before.
