Chapter 7 Another One

So fake.

Ginny rolled her eyes.

Chandler walked over and, as if it were second nature, tucked Melody’s blanket in for her.

“You got out of bed again, didn’t you? Didn’t the doctor say you need to rest?”

Melody looked up at him with adoring eyes, her smile sugary sweet. “You bought me a gift. I was just too curious to see what it was… I couldn’t help but sneak a peek.”

“You could’ve just asked me. I would’ve

told you. But really, your recovery is more important than anything else.”

The two of them were acting like no one else was in the room, playing out their little moment like they were made for

each other.

Ginny had never seen this side of

Chandler before.

He had never been this gentle with her.

There it was-plain and brutal. The

difference between love and not-love.

She gave a bitter smile and turned away, refusing to look anymore.

“Chandler… I suddenly feel like eating

those pan-fried buns we used to get all the time. You remember the place across the street? Would you mind picking some up

for me?”

Her voice was soft and coy.

Chandler’s lips lifted in a rare smile.

“Sure. Wait here.”

He turned and walked out. As he passed Ginny, he gave her a quick, indifferent glance.

Cold. As always.

Like the air between them had never

warmed.

And just like that, all the strength seemed

to drain out of her. She stared at his broad back as he left, her eyes trembling faintly.

In all these years, she’d never dared to ask Chandler for anything like that.

He’d always been above everyone else— whether in the Special Ops Unit, or just at home.

Yet for Melody, just because she wanted something, he became her errand boy willingly.

“Ginny, are you upset?” Melody’s voice floated over, all gentle and doll-like. “That’s just how Chandler and I are. If I want something, I only need to say the word… Hasn’t he ever treated you like that?”

The words were soft, but the gloating undertone was unmistakable.

Ginny gave a cold laugh. “He’s not even here. What’s the point of pretending?”

Melody’s eyes slowly lost their innocent sheen. A smirk curled on her lips, sharp

and cruel.

“You saw it yourself. Chandler would do anything for me. Even after all these years, I’m still the one he loves. So the time you’ve spent with him? Worthless. Do you need me to spell it out? The

truth is right in front of you. My advice? Walk away now. Or you’ll be the one left shattered.”

Each word was like a blade, slicing into Ginny’s chest.

She gulped and forced herself to stay upright. Her voice was tight. “What makes you think I don’t want to walk away? He’s the one who won’t let me go. I already asked for a divorce. He’s the one who

refuses to get divorced.”

Melody’s smile faltered.

Ginny pressed on, her tone dripping with scorn. “So it seems you’re not that important to him either. Otherwise, why would he keep you hidden like a mistress all these years and never give you a proper title?”

“You-!” Melody’s face twisted with rage.

“Ginny, what the hell do you even have

to be proud of? Yeah, you’ve got the legal paperwork – big deal. You’re just scraping by, watching the clock every damn

day. That fancy name of yours? Means nothing. You couldn’t even keep his baby when you were pregnant!”

And then she spotted something out of the corner of her eye-familiar, approaching.

A cruel smile formed on her lips.

“Do you know why Chandler didn’t pick up your call that day? Because I told him not to. And when you kept calling for help, I turned his phone off. If it weren’t for me, your baby would still be alive.”

SLAP!

The crack echoed in the room.

Ginny’s eyes burned red. Veins bulged at her temple. “You bitch!”

“Ginny!” Chandler had just walked in and caught it all. He grabbed Ginny’s arm, his face stormy as he looked at Melody, who was now sniffling and on the verge of

tears.

“Melody, I’ll come back another time.” He dropped the food on the table, then dragged Ginny out of the room.

“Let me go!” She struggled, but he shoved her into the back seat and climbed in

beside her. “I told you, her body is still weak. Why would you slap her?!”

“She killed my baby!” Tears welled in Ginny’s eyes, threatening to spill. “If it

wasn’t for her, my baby would still be

alive.”

ACAR

“I told you-it was just an accident!”

“And you’re still defending her?” Ginny’s body shook, rage and grief battling inside her. “Chandler, do you even have a heart? Whose fault do you think it was that I went through all that? She’s all you ever care about! Why won’t you just divorce

me?”

Chandler’s expression darkened. His grip on her wrist tightened.

“You want a divorce because of this?”

Suddenly, he shoved her down beneath him, pressing her into the seat.

“Fine. If you miss that baby so much, then let’s make another one.”

Without another word, he began ripping at her clothes.
