Chapter 67 Who Were You Trying to Fool?
Of course, the fact that Chandler still refused to agree to the divorce didn’t make Ginny assume he had any lingering feelings for her.
She was under no such illusions. Not after everything he had done these past few years–especially recently. She knew exactly what kind of man he was now.
Maybe he was just waiting for the right moment.
What kind of moment? She didn’t know. And frankly, she didn’t
care.
“Ginny, what a coincidence. Are you out here for some fresh air
too?”
Ginny had already spotted them from a distance and tried to steer away, but somehow Melody still managed to catch sight of
her.
Seeing no way to avoid the encounter, Ginny forced a faint smile, nodded a greeting, and was about to walk away–when Melody, as if only just noticing the folder in her hand, spoke loudly, “Are you job hunting?”
Then, like she’d just put two and two together, she added with mock surprise, “No wonder you’re around here. There’s only one

hospital nearby. But I heard they have high standards when it comes to hiring doctors.”
She paused deliberately. “Especially when it comes to character. You’ve been trending online quite a bit lately… do you think the hospital knows?”
She looked at Ginny with faux concern, as if she wasn’t the reason Ginny had been making headlines in the first place.
The Wheeler family’s mess hadn’t even cooled off yet, and here she was, acting like none of it had anything to do with her. As if she had the right to stand here and throw shade.
Chandler stood beside Melody, silent as always. No matter what Melody said—no matter how she mocked or insulted Ginny–he never said a word in her defense.
Ginny had grown used to this silence. She’d been disappointed too many times to count. At this point, he was nothing more than air to her.
“Didn’t you already inform the hospital?” Ginny said, her voice low and steady. “You’ve already done it. So what’s with the innocent act?”
The remark slipped out before she could stop herself.
Melody hadn’t expected her to strike back so directly. Her face darkened, and she instinctively leaned closer to Chandler,

hoping he’d step in. And afraid–deep down–that he might believe what Ginny said.
But Ginny didn’t even glance their way. She turned as if they didn’t exist, ready to leave,
Then Melody finally spoke up. “Chandler, I really meant well. If I’d known Ginny didn’t like people meddling, I wouldn’t have said anything. But with a temper like that, I’m guessing the interview didn’t go too well.”
She smiled, almost sweetly. “Maybe we should help her find a job. That might cheer her up.”
She acted like she was being generous, like she was kindly stepping in to solve a problem.
Chandler, pleased by her apparent magnanimity, looked at Ginny as if she were the petty one.
If this had been before, Ginny might have cared what he thought. But now? All she wanted was to feel a little peace.
“Our company isn’t hiring at the moment,” Melody went on, “but my brother said our other company is. The position’s not great, though… something like a janitor.”
She looked at Ginny with feigned sympathy. “Would that be okay with you? If not, that’s fine. I just wanted to help.”

Then she turned to Chandler with a delicate expression. “I really am trying to do a good thing here, Chandler. But you know Ginny’s specialty–it doesn’t quite line up with our business. I just want to see you smile. That’s why I thought I’d help her find something.”
She looked back at Ginny. “Ginny, don’t look down on janitorial work. Every profession has its own merits. In medicine, of course, a janitor can’t compare to you. But when it comes to cleaning, well… you might not even match up to someone with real experience.”
With every word, she paired Ginny with the term janitor.
It wasn’t just a dig–it was a warning. Melody was making it clear: the Wheeler family had already made their move. And if it weren’t for her supposed generosity, Ginny wouldn’t even be able to get a janitor job in this city.
She was mocking her. Telling her that even with her top–tier education, she was still going to end up scraping by.
Ginny had already started walking away, but those words stopped her in her tracks.
She turned, slowly, and looked back at Melody. Her smile was faint, but there was something sharp in it.
Melody suddenly felt uneasy.

There was something about that look–it carried weight. Something cold and final.
But what did Ginny have left to threaten her with? She’d already played her biggest card.
And yet…
Before Melody could shake the unease, Ginny spoke.
“Whether it’s a doctor or a janitor, there’s one quality every company looks for.”
Her voice was calm. “Honesty.”
She tilted her head slightly and looked down–right at Melody’s flat stomach.
Melody froze.
What did she know?
No. No, she couldn’t know. No one knew. Just her and her
closest friend.
Her friend wouldn’t say a word. And she definitely hadn’t.
Ginny was bluffing. She had to be.
Melody forced herself to stay calm. But Ginny’s gaze was too

piercing, too sure.
It shook her. Her knees wobbled beneath her.
“Careful,” Chandler said, quickly steadying her.
When he saw how pale she’d gone, his brows furrowed in
concern.
Ginny didn’t say anything more. But she also didn’t explain why Melody looked like she’d seen a ghost.
Chandler took a step toward her, about to ask something, but Ginny was already gone.
“You don’t look well,” he said gently. “Let’s go back to the
hospital.”
