Since they couldn’t understand cach other, there was no point in forcing things anymore. Letting go sooner would be better for both of them

I understand. Thank you for your patience with me during this time. I’ve already packed up. Once I leave your office, I’ll be out of the hospital for good. I’ll move out of the dorm today, too.”

Ginny bowed slightly, then turned and walked away

The decision to resign had been sudden. She hadn’t even started looking for a place yet. But now that she’d quit, there was no way she’d keep staying in the hospital dorms

Of course, she had no intention of going back to the apartment she’d shared with Chandler, either

She planned to rent a place. Until she found the right one, she’d stay in a hotel

Thankfully, she’d saved up a bit over the yearsenough to live on for a while even without a job

Ginny had always been quick to act. She stepped off the top floor and left the hospital, her belongings in hand

She had considered saying goodbye to Kelly before leaving- after all, Kelly had looked out for her a lot these past few days-

but she was on her rounds. By the time she finished, there would

be more people around, and Ginny had no interest in saying farewell in front of an audience

So instead, she sent Kelly a short message, telling her she had resigned, and left

As she was packing in the dorm, Kelly called

Ginny, why’d you quit?she asked, her voice tight with concern. None of this was your fault. You didn’t have to do

this.”

I know.”

Since the whole essay scandal broke out, Kelly had been the only one who believed her. Ginny was grateful for that. But she’d made up her mind, and at this point, words wouldn’t change anything

Kelly knew it too. In a place like that hospital, her support was a drop in the bucket. Even she had felt the sting of the rumors over the last few days

And Ginny had endured even morewhispers, glares, pointed fingers. If it had been her in Ginny’s shoes, she might’ve chosen to leave, too

It just sucked. Now they wouldn’t be able to live together, eat together, or walk to work together

You’ve got a great personality,Ginny told her gently. You’ll find people you get along with in no time.”

Kelly didn’t believe that, not really. But she didn’t want Ginny to worry, so she changed the subject

Guess what I overheard on the stairs just now?”

What?”

That woman your husband’s seeing? She’s not even pregnant. She faked it. She’s awful. She probably thought a fake baby would force your husband to divorce you. Ginny, you can’t let her get away with this.”

What

Melodywasn’t pregnant

She hadn’t been admitted to their hospitalhow had Kelly even

heard this

She came to visit a friend. I overheard it by accident,Kelly explained, a little breathless. But I swear it’s true.”

Ginny could hear the urgency in her voice and jumped in before she got more worked up

I know you wouldn’t lie about something like this. And

honestly, with the kind of person Melody is, it wouldn’t surprise me at all. So yeah. I believe you.”

She hung up and quickly finished packing, then hauled her suitcase to the curb and caught a cab to the nearest hotel

If Chandler found out Melody had faked her pregnancyhow would he react

But knowing how much he cared about her, he probably wouldn’t blame her anyway

And besides, that was between the two of them. Whether Melody was pregnant or not, it had nothing to do with her

anymore

So Ginny let it go

After checking in, she unpacked a little, and before she knew it, it was noon

When she went downstairs to grab lunch, she noticed that the hotel was close to the hospital where Josh was staying

She figured she’d stop by and visit after she ate

Whatever her feelings toward Chandler, Josh had always been kind to her during her time with the Pierce.family. There was no reason to project her disappointment in one person onto everyone else

She’d always been someone who lived on her own terms. Returning to that solitude now didn’t feel strangeit felt like slipping back into something familiar. Comfortable. She enjoyed

  1. it

Even ordering food was easier when it was just her

She had a meal, then slung her bag over her shoulder and headed across the street to Josh’s hospital

There were fruit baskets for sale at the entrance. Since she

hadn’t come with anything, she picked out a nice one to bring with her

When she arrived at the room, the housekeeper had just stepped out to wash dishes. Josh was alone

As soon as he saw her, his face lit up. He called her in, motioned for her to sit. Before she could say much of anything, he was already offering her fruit, snackshovering like he was worried she hadn’t eaten or drunk a thing all day

Ginny felt her heart warm at the sight

GrandpaI’m sorry, I didn’t mean to upset you the other day.”

Of course, he knew what kind of person Ginny was. He also knew the Wheeler family had pushed Ryan.too far that day, which was why he blurted out the truth in front of everyone

Honestly, he felt like he owed Ryan a thankyou. If it weren’t for him, he might never have found out that he’d almost had a greatgrandchild

But that chance was gone now. Ruined by that idiot grandson of his

And now it looked like he was going to lose his

granddaughterinlaw too

Sigh…
