Chapter 55 Chris Wheeler of the Wheelers
Lucky Draw
But now, Ginny was no longer the doctor everyone admired for entering Edward’s lab. She was someone who had been expelled, her reputation in ruins.
The hospital couldn’t cut her loose fast enough–how could they still care about saving her dignity?
“Ginny, this whole thing has been dragging on for days,” the Dean said. “Our hospital hasn’t fired you out of respect for the past, but you can’t keep acting like our reputation doesn’t matter. I suggest you really think over what I just said.”
Ginny had marched into the Dean’s office furious, but left with a hollow look in her eyes.
That morning, she sat in the inpatient wing hallway for hours. It wasn’t until lunchtime that Kelly called, and she finally pulled herself to her feet and walked away.
“I’m not running away. No matter what, I’m not a deserter.”
After lunch, feeling somewhat recharged, Ginny stood on the rooftop, trying to rally herself.
Just then, Ryan called.
“The trending topic’s been taken down,” he told her. “As long as

it doesn’t flare up again, this will pass.”
Ginny knew those few words had cost him nights of relentless effort. She was grateful.
“Thank you,” she said. It was all she could offer.
She hung up and sat alone on the rooftop, letting the autumn wind sweep over her, hoping it could carry her worries away with it.
In the next couple of days, no more online drama unfolded at the hospital. No one showed up to make a scene. Slowly, things began to return to normal.
Ginny stood at the window, watching the quiet, empty hospital entrance. She let out a long breath. Only she knew the pressure she’d been under these past few days–how it felt to stand alone against everyone.
But finally, finally, the storm had passed.
“Ginny, your phone’s ringing.” Kelly handed it over. “I’m heading off to rounds.”
Ginny smiled faintly and took her phone. A text had come in from an unknown number. They asked to meet her that evening at the café behind the hospital.
She didn’t plan to go. Probably just someone messing with her.

She was about to delete the message when another one arrived:
[If you don’t show up, I’ll make sure your scandal hits the trending page again.]
Ginny stared at the screen. She had no choice.
After work, she walked to the back–alley café and followed the directions to a private booth.
Someone was already inside, wrapped up tightly in a hat and scarf. She couldn’t tell who it was at first. But the moment she saw his eyes, she knew.
Chris Wheeler. The third son of the Wheeler family.
He was a top star now–anything he wore could sell out in minutes. Every endorsement, drama, movie he touched turned to gold. The internet loved him: steady, hardworking, full of positive energy.
Who would’ve guessed that someone like that would stir up an online mob just to get revenge on her for his sister?
No wonder angry netizens had swarmed the hospital. Up till then, all the hate had stayed online. But suddenly, they were physically showing up at the hospital’s gates. So it was him.
The three Wheeler brothers spoiled Melody like she was made of glass. Even their parents were quick to step in whenever

something went wrong for her. Must be nice, having people like that in your corner.
“Are you about to cry?” Chris looked uneasy as Ginny’s eyes turned red. “I haven’t even said anything yet, why are you crying? And besides, you’re the one who bullied Melody. What are you even crying about?”
“When did I ever bully her?”
Why was it that every man who knew Melody seemed to believe Ginny had wronged her? Like it was some universal truth. Like it didn’t matter what really happened.
She was the one who got hurt, and everyone still acted like she was the villain, just because Melody knew how to play the part of the fragile girl.
“Still denying it? Even now?”
Chris frowned. “She told me everything–about that post she wrote. She said it was her personal story. So you’re still claiming you didn’t steal her boyfriend?
“You’re good–looking. You have a decent job. Why would you do something like that?”
He didn’t care what Ginny said. He’d already decided she was the bad guy.

“I came here today to tell you–if you want me to stop, you’re going to apologize to Melody. On your knees. And you’re going to divorce Chandler.”
He said it like he was doing her a favor. Like he was being magnanimous.
Ginny stared at him, then let out a soft, cold laugh.
“I never did anything to you,” she said. “Why do I need your forgiveness? And I didn’t do anything to Melody. Why should I apologize to her?
“As for Chandler–if you want us to divorce, go talk to him.
Don’t come to me.”
With that, she stood up and left.
Back at the hospital, she drove out from the underground garage, heading home. When she stopped at a red light on Central Avenue, she glanced to the side–and froze.
Through the window of a restaurant not far away, she saw Chandler, seated with Melody and her parents. The four of them were laughing, chatting easily, like a perfect little family.
Ginny stared, and a strange mix of laughter and tears welled up inside her. In that moment, she didn’t even know how she was supposed to feel.
Bang!
