Chapter 52 Divorce

Chandler had planned to drag things out a little longer, wait a few more days before dealing with it.
But the Wheeler family’s parents showed up at his place first thing in the morning.
What caught him even more off guard was that Ginny had found out–and that Ryan had gone with her to the Pierce family to demand an explanation.
To be honest, when he first heard all of it, a wave of panic had
hit him.
There was a sinking feeling in his chest, like something important was slipping through his fingers.
And sure enough, the moment he feared had arrived.
Chandler stared at Ginny, silent. The longer he said nothing, the darker Ryan’s expression became—until the knock on the door broke through the tension. Everyone turned toward the sound just as Melody stepped inside.
“What are you doing here?” Chandler instinctively tried to push her back out.
Things were chaotic enough already. He worried that her involvement would only make things worse, that his

grandfather’s health wouldn’t be able to handle the added stress.
But Josh spoke before he could act. “Let her in.”
Melody, irritated by Chandler’s reaction, lightened up
immediately at the old man’s words. She shook off Chandler’s hand and went straight to the bedside.

“I’m sorry. I really didn’t know my parents would house today,” she said, her voice sweet, apologetic. “Please don’t be angry with them. They’re just worried I might get taken advantage of.”
On the surface, she was explaining her parents‘ visit. But in truth, she was making her message clear: the Wheeler family knew about the situation now, and their stance had been made known. The Pierce family needed to respond–soon.
Both families had reputations to uphold. They couldn’t let something like this spiral into a scandal.
Melody knew how to read people. That much was clear. But Josh despised people like her–those who played games behind polite smiles.
He understood her unspoken message perfectly. But he said nothing.
After a few seconds of silence, the smile on Melody’s face began to stiffen. The silence embarrassed her, but she kept her

pleasant expression intact.

Seeing that her first play hadn’t landed, she placed her hand over her still–flat stomach. “The doctor said the Wheeler genes are strong,” she said with a small laugh. “My mom had three boys before she had me. So chances are, this little one’s going to be a boy.”
“Hmph. What era do you think we’re living in?” Ryan cut in, his voice laced with sarcasm. “Your family got a throne to pass down or something?”
Melody flushed but didn’t argue. Instead, she looked pitifully toward Chandler, hoping he’d come to her defense.
Chandler already disliked Ryan. Seeing that look on Melody’s face made him bristle. “What, you live on the beach or something? Why you always got your nose in everyone else’s business? Your company bankrupt or what?”
Ryan fired back without missing a beat. “Weren’t you just saying you didn’t want to divorce Ginny?” he said, voice sharp. “Funny how fast you switch sides–already defending the other woman?
“Don’t forget who you are, Chandler. If you think you can enjoy the best of both worlds, you might want to start preparing to be sued.”
Chandler’s face went dark.

Without a thought for the people around him, he lunged forward and grabbed Ryan by the collar. “She’s not your anything,” he said through clenched teeth. “Ginny’s my wife. We haven’t divorced yet. I’m warning you–stay the hell away from her. Or else…”
Just when they looked ready to come to blows again, Ginny stood, her eyes red. “Ryan, I have work. Can you drive me to the hospital?”
Before Chandler could react, she pulled Ryan toward the door.
Ryan had already done enough for her today. She didn’t want him to get dragged deeper into the mess, didn’t want him to offend the Pierce family because of her.
They were both orphans. She knew how hard it had been for him to get where he was. She couldn’t bear the thought of his career being destroyed overnight.
Besides, she could tell–they weren’t going to get any answers today. There was no point in staying.
Just as she reached for Ryan’s arm, Chandler grabbed her.
Ginny instinctively tried to shake him off, but he refused to let

In a moment of struggle, she shifted to the side. Chandler’s grip pulled at her collar, revealing a deep pink birthmark just above

her collarbone.
Melody, standing nearby, saw it clearly.
A plum blossom–shaped birthmark.
Why would Ginny have a birthmark there?
Something clicked in Melody’s mind. She reached up and touched the spot on her own collarbone, eyes wide.

Chandler was still holding onto Ginny when suddenly Melody crumpled to the floor, face pale.
“Chandler… I don’t feel well. Please take me back to my room.”
He immediately let go of Ginny and, without another word, picked Melody up and rushed her out.
Josh, along with Chandler’s parents, watched them go, each lost in their own thoughts.
“Grandpa, I have to go to work now,” Ginny said, forcing a smile. “Get some rest. I’ll visit again when I have time.”
She gave him a quick nod, then left the hospital with Ryan.
“Divorce,” he said the moment they got in the car. “Where’s the divorce agreement? If you don’t want to give it to him yourself, I’ll do it.”

“I already gave it to him,” Ginny replied.

Thinking back to the scene just moments ago, she gave a bitter smile. “You’ve already spent so much time helping me today. I’m fine now. You should head back to work.”
