Chapter 49 Consoled Her
Lucky Draw
Kelly Ridler was a new intern at the hospital this year. She’d graduated from the same university as Ginny. She was sweet–tongued and bright–eyed.
Normally, the girl was composed, nothing like the flustered mess she was now. Anyone passing by might think something serious had happened.
When Ginny took the phone from her, her eyes landed on a post titled: [Beauty Saves the Hero, Only to Be Robbed of Love by Another Woman.]
The name was tacky, sure, but what caught Ginny’s attention was the quote beneath it–eerily close to her current situation.
As she scrolled further, her heart sank.
This wasn’t just similar.
It was her story–her, Chandler, and Melody.
Only in this version, Melody had been cast as the tragic figure, forced to leave because of her. Ginny was the villain, the other woman who’d snatched away someone else’s man.
The comments beneath the post were vicious.
If it weren’t for her, they said, Chandler and Melody would’ve

ended up together long ago. Now that Melody was back, she still shamelessly clung to him.
Every word was an arrow.
Kelly noticed her mood shift and quickly took back the phone. “Ginny, did you offend someone?” she asked, her tone laced with
concern.
They hadn’t known each other long, but Kelly could tell–Ginny wasn’t anything like what the post made her out to be. If she’d really wanted to cling to a broken marriage, if she couldn’t let go of that man, she wouldn’t have moved out and come to live here.
Kelly might not know the full story, but that much was obvious.
Besides, the post reeked of intent. It wasn’t just a story—it was a hit job. Someone wanted to destroy Ginny.
Who would hate her that much?
Kelly had read enough novels to make an educated guess—it had to be the other woman in the story. Someone eager to be made official, someone who’d grown impatient and decided to act.
Sure, it worked. But it was despicable. A person who’d stoop to this couldn’t possibly be a good person.
“Kelly, don’t you have the morning shift today?” Ginny asked gently. “I’m fine, You should get going.”

She didn’t want anyone to see her like this. After Kelly left, she went to the bathroom to freshen up.
These days, her life rotated between the hospital and her dorm. The only people she interacted with were patients and doctors. If she had truly offended anyone, it had to be Melody.
Because she hadn’t been willing to divorce.
Now, with Melody carrying Chandler’s child, she clearly wanted to force her hand.
This smear campaign—cheap, nasty as it was–made sense.
Someone capable of orchestrating a kidnapping without blinking wouldn’t bat an eye at posting lies online.
After washing up, Ginny decided to grab some breakfast, maybe read for a while afterward. But just as she reached for her phone, it rang.
It was Kelly again.
“Ginny, don’t go out yet,” she warned, her voice tight. “There’s a bunch of livestreamers and influencers crowding the hospital entrance. It’s a circus.
“Also… the hospital’s official account is getting swarmed. If the department heads catch wind of this, they’ll be pissed. Maybe

“If you want, I’ll call in for you. You don’t have to say anything.”
Ginny hadn’t expected one post to cause so much damage.
She was about to say something about staying calm, keeping her head high–I’ve done nothing wrong, so I’m not afraid of shadows. But just then, a new message appeared on her phone.
She read it.
And whatever composure she had left, shattered.
Her voice barely held steady. “Thank you. I appreciate it.”
She ended the call, sat on the edge of her bed, and stared blankly at her screen as tears began to fall–heavy, silent, unstoppable.
She didn’t know how long she sat like that before a voice called to her from the hallway.
It was Ryan.
Startled, Ginny lifted her head, disoriented for a moment before walking to the door. She opened it, and when she saw him, she gave a hollow smile.
“I got expelled from the lab.”

The message had come moments earlier. Professor Edwards had informed her himself.
All her hard work–gone. One stupid article and everything she’d built came crashing down.
She’d fought so hard for a new life, a clean break from her past. She only wanted to start over. But why did it have to be this hard?
“Ryan, did I make a mistake?”
Maybe the real mistake had been five years ago—marrying Chandler in the first place.
Maybe then none of this would’ve happened.
Ryan saw the heartbreak in her eyes, didn’t say a word. He simply pulled her into a hug,
“Don’t be afraid,” he whispered. “I’m here. No matter what happens, I’ll always stay by your side.”
Still, even he hadn’t expected things to go this far. That Professor Edwards would personally remove her?
The man wasn’t known for rash decisions. Not even when Ginny had faced plagiarism accusations had he gone this far. And this post–veiled and yague–hadn’t even mentioned her name.

Why now?
Something didn’t add up.
And in his gut, Ryan knew—
This wasn’t just about a viral story.
