Chapter 45 Fainted from Rage
Lucky Draw
The orchids in the garden were in full bloom. Around this time every year, Ginny would stay at the Pierce estate, drawn by the quiet. Even if no one spoke to her, she could sit there all day, sipping tea, watching the flowers, and somehow feel a little lighter.
But today, walking back into the garden, there was nothing but sorrow and grief in her chest.
“Ginny,” Josh said gently, “tell me the truth. Do you still want to live with that brat?”
He paused, then added, “Of course, assuming that woman, Melody, isn’t stirring things up.”
He wasn’t trying to test her. He’d lived through enough to know exactly what was eating at Ginny. So instead of dancing around the subject, he took her side and named the problem directly.
Ginny’s fingers fidgeted in her lap. She gave a tired smile. “Grandpa, I know you mea
well. But marriage… it’s not something you can fix for me. You could make Chandler stay with me for a day, a year–but you can’t force him to stay for a lifetime. Feelings aren’t something you can will into being.”
She had tried for five years. If there had been even a flicker of affection from him, it would’ve shown by now. But she hadn’t seen a trace. And she was tired–tired to the bone.

Whether he loved her or not no longer mattered. She just wanted out.
She believed even the deepest love faded over time.

“No one’s forcing him,” Josh said quietly. “When you brought up divorce just now, neither his parents nor I said a word. But he still objected—that alone proves he cares about you. Otherwise, now that Melody’s back, why hasn’t he agreed to divorce you and marry her?”
That was something Ginny had never been able to figure out either.
But even so, it didn’t mean much. He didn’t love her. That was all that mattered. If he didn’t love her, it didn’t matter who he chose to marry in the end.
“You’ve already walked ninety–nine steps for this marriage. Now, just before reaching the finish line, you say you want to give up? Someday, won’t you regret it?” Josh’s voice was low, not reproachful but weighted.
“You’ve been part of this family for five years. I know your nature. You’re not someone who gives up halfway. You’re not someone who says ‘forget it‘ when things get hard.
“All this talk of leaying–it’s just anger. Because Melody’s back. Because Chandler gave her what he’s never given you. You’re

hurt, and I understand that.

“But child, don’t make decisions in the heat of the moment. I’m a man too, I know better than you what Chandler feels for Melody. A man might be kind to many, but he’ll only marry the one he truly cares about. And he married you.
“He was trained in a special task force from a young age. He’s slow when it comes to relationships. But if you give him time, he’ll figure out who he truly cares about. As for Melody, don’t worry. I will take care of her.”
Ginny’s expression softened slightly, but she declined his offer.
“Please don’t trouble yourself, Grandpa. You’re not in the best health–you should rest.”
Grandpa didn’t press her. Instead, he changed the subject.
“Ginny, I’ll tell you this: as far as the Pierce family is concerned, you are the only wife for Chandler. In the future, everything the Pierce family owns will belong to you and Chandler’s child.”
It was his way of showing her support, giving her reassurance.
Ginny didn’t care much for material things. But hearing him say that–knowing someone was thinking of her like that–still moved her.
She opened her mouth to speak several times but stopped

herself each time.
That night, per Grandpa’s insistence, Chandler and Ginny both stayed at the Pierce estate.
Their wedding suite was still there, though they’d rarely returned since getting married–and almost never together.
Given how tense things were between them now, sharing a room was awkward, to say the least.
Thankfully, Chandler picked up a blanket and went straight to the sofa.
Ginny quietly let out a breath of relief.

The next morning, Melody received a call from an unfamiliar number. At first, her tone was curt and impatient. But when she found out it was someone from the Pierce family’s old estate, her voice shifted instantly.
She got dressed to the nines and took a cab over.
Josh already had his doubts about her. Seeing her now, all dolled up and eager, only deepened his distaste.
“Sir, when did you return to the country?” she said sweetly. “Chandler told me you and his parents were abroad. Otherwise,

I would’ve come by to visit ages ago.”

He looked at her so desperate to squeeze into their family–and the dislike in his eyes was plain.
“The Pierce and Wheeler families may both be prominent in California, but we’ve never had much interaction. There’s no need for you to visit me. I called you here to say one thing: stop contacting Chandler.
“He’s married. You’re from a good family–you should be looking for a man who suits you, someone you can marry when the time’s right.”
Melody’s eagerness was doused like a fire hit with ice water.
She returned to the hospital that day and passed out from the
rage.
