Chapter 6
Inside–was a tiny, perfectly formed fetus.
His gaze caught something written on the inside of the box, smeared in bright red:
“Hope you and Kaylee like the gift.”
Ethan’s breath hitched. Panic bloomed behind his eyes.
He fumbled for his phone and called me.
No connection.
User blocked.
“She knows,” he whispered, voice trembling.
“She knows everything.”
He turned, eyes bloodshot, and grabbed Zack by the collar.
“What the hell did you do to her last night?!”
Zack faltered under Ethan’s bloodshot glare.
“We… we only did it because you approved it!” he stammered. “Shouldn’t you be asking Kaylee? She said the drug just had a mild sedative–it was supposed to numb her nerves for a few hours, and by morning she’d remember nothing!”
He pointed a trembling finger at Kaylee.
Kaylee froze, then quickly reached for Ethan’s hand, her voice panicked.
“Ethan, I’m devastated too! I lost the baby just like you did. That child was ours too. Yes, I gave her something–but I wasn’t the one who touched her. And those blood trails? They were clearly from last night…”
Just then, Ethan’s assistant rushed in, pale and breathless.
“Mr. Johnson, something terrible has happened. A video of you and Kaylee was just leaked online–it’s going viral. Johnson Corp’s stocks are tanking.”
Ethan snatched the tablet from him and hit play.
Onscreen, he watched in horror as he and Kaylee dragged Sophia like an animal across the floor, her body limp on the stool as they posed her like a toy.
The comment section was on fire.
“This guy acts like a devoted husband on camera–what a disgusting hypocrite.”
“She was pregnant. PREGNANT. Are they even human?”
“Where’s Sophia now? Someone find her!”
Ethan’s hands shook as he demanded an address from his assistant. Then, still half–drunk, he sped off–running red lights, ignoring sirens–until he reached the hospital.
He stormed into the OB ward.
“Sophia! I’m here!”

He flung the door openi
Empty
Nothing but silence.
“No no, no, no where is she? Where’s my Sophia?!
He grabbed a nurse passing by and shouted like a madman.
The nurse looked at him with nothing but contempt.
“You dare show your face here? Your wife was soaked in blood when we brought her in–she almost didn’t make it.”
Ethan tightened his grip on her wrist.
“What happened to the baby? Tell me how we lost the child!
The nurse stared at him like he was an idiot.
“Don’t you already know? After everything you did… you’re seriously asking now? You partied while your wife was bleeding out. What kind of man are you?
But Ethan barely heard a word.
All he could hear was her last whispered plea:
“Help me.”
While he had laughed along with the men who ruined her. And left her to die.
Hed
dropped to his knees with a thud.
“It’s my fault… I killed her. I killed our baby…”
Tears streamed down his face, regret clawing at his insides.
“Where is she now? Please just tell me where she went!”
The nurse sighed and looked away.
“She left. Someone came and picked her up this morning. I don’t know who.”
Just as Ethan tried to stand, two officers entered the hallway.
“Mr. Johnson, you’re under arrest for reckless driving and DUI Please come with us.”
I got the message while lying in a private medical center, eating fruit in bed.
Karina, my best friend, sat by my side, eyes full of worry.
“So? What now? Ethan and Kaylee are finished. What’s your next move?”
I set down my fork.
“Divorce. Obviously.”
“You really think he’ll agree to that? After all this?”
I smiled faintly.
“He will. Because I contacted him.”
Chapter 6
Karina’s eyes widened in shock.
Him.
Vincent Williams–heir of the Williams family, one of the Big Four.
New York’s most feared and sought–after attorney.
And a man I owed far too much to.
Three years ago, he fought for justice for my mother.
I’ve been in his debt ever since.
But thankfully… we can still make deals.
Just thinking of his voice–calm, cold, commanding–made my whole body go soft.
Karina noticed my change and rushed to call the doctor.
I wanted to stop her, but it was too late.
I sighed.
Doctors can heal the body… but not a shattered soul.
Once I had recovered a bit, I visited the police station.
Inside the holding ce
sat like a shadow of the man he used to be–disheveled, unshaven, broken.
“Sophia… I was wrong. I know I was wrong. Just give me one more chance. I’ll do anything. Anything you want.”
I looked down at his face.
And laughed–cold and
sharp.
“You have no future.”
He blinked, confused.
So I explained.
“I sold everything. All my assets. Even myself. To the Williams family.”
“I don’t want anything from you–except to make sure you never walk free again.”
Outside, I made a call.
“Prepare the divorce papers. Fast. And tell Vincent…”
Pause.
“I accept all of his conditions. Let’s get married.”
Five years had passed.
The city, blanketed in white snow, buzzed with holiday cheer–but none of it had anything to do with me.
It was past midnight when I got home. The traffic had been brutal after a late shift at work.
I came home and went straight to bed.
Chapter 6
In the warmth of the bedroom, the sound of soft fabric rustling suddenly cut through the silence.
I was asleep–curled to one side, unaware of the man who had returned.
The mattress dipped under his weight.
A tall familiar figure loomed behind me, pressing down with quiet dominance.
My brows furrowed in my sleep.
In the haze, I felt my nightgown being pushed up, a dry, warm palm brushing against my skin…
