Sophia felt a lump form in her throat. These children, barely five years old, were already fiercely protective of their mother. She’d raised them to be loyal and loving, even when it might not serve their own interests.

“This isn’t up for debate,” he said, his tone gentle but firm. “Your comfort is non–negotiable for me.”
Something in his eyes–a fierce protectiveness she wasn’t used to seeing directed at her–made Irene’s breath catch.
“Fine,” she conceded, a small smile playing on her lips. “But you’re going to spoil me at this rate.”
Adam leaned closer, his voice dropping to a murmur that sent a shiver down her spine. “Spoiling you is my privilege, Irene. Get used to it.”
Her cheeks flushed pink, and she found herself unable to hold his intense gaze.
They arrived at the music center just as class was letting out. The triplets spotted them immediately, racing over with excited shouts.
‘Mommy! Uncle Adam!” they called in unison, launching themselves at Irene.
