Chapter 255
Caden had a fight to plan. He was suddenly appreciative for keeping more of Lyric’s blood back then as that was what he planned to use on Jaris,
He had it in mind to begin the plot as soon as he returned to the Pack. He was taking Jaris down tonight and getting Lyric back. He was going to make her pay dearly for wanting to leave him in the first place.
However, he was in for a surprise when he reached the Pack.
Corey, his right–hand man had been waiting in the parking lot where he delivered the news.
“Lyric is here. She came back on her own.”
LYRIC
Sometimes, a decision might seem like the most stupid one. But what could you do when it was the only one you could make?
I nervously rubbed my hands together, my eyes pinned at the door, waiting for the moment Caden would show up. I knew he was back. The question was: what was he going to do to me?
My heart skipped out of my chest when the door opened abruptly. Chills traveled from his cold eyes to my spine.
Making the decision to come here hadn’t been easy. Jaris kicked fervently against it that it had to take me a whole lot to convince him with so many promises I’d be fine.
There was only one way to know whose Caden’s ally was; and that one way involved me being here. I needed to take the risk.
“Lyric.” His eyes held more questions than rage.
I lowered mine to the floor. “I’m sorry for leaving. Jaris was just bent on taking me away at the moment and I didn’t know how to fight him off. I left him as soon as I could.”
Seconds felt like minutes. He left his stare on me, making me feel scrutinized.
He wasn’t going to suspect a thing was he? To him, I didn’t know about Greta.
“So, you returned on your own?” He started towards me, his steps unhurried.
I summoned courage and forced steel into my eyes. The one way to get him to believe me was by looking serious enough.
“I don’t have a choice. Despite what I really want, you know I can’t break the deal.”
He laughed as he stopped in front of me. His hand came to my face and I held my breath, thinking this was it. But he merely brushed a finger along my
cheek.
“How was your stay with him?” He locked his eyes on me.
I knew it wasn’t a rhetorical question. Caden always needed answers.
“Short.”
“So, why did he come for you? And where did he know exactly where to find you?”
That, I couldn’t answer, It was definitely going to get Bianca in trouble, if it hadn’t already.
Caden’s eyes smiled as he figured it out. “Bianca told him, didn’t she? She told him about the deal.

“Where’s she?”
“I don’t know?”
“I swear to the Moon, Lyric-”
“I don’t know, Caden! I’m telling you.”
Moments passed, then his hand descended on my belly. I groaned as I bent in half, my hand going over my midriff.
Oh, damn him!
He yanked my hair. “If I were you, Lyric, I’d think long and hard. Because things are about to get messy.”
What I had to do required patience.
Like knowing the right time to strike.
I came here for one person who was the key to unlocking Caden’s secret. In order to get to him without being noticed or interrupted, I needed to strike at
the right time.
Corey. He was Caden’s right hand.
One advantage of being stuck with the enemy was that you got the special privilege to learn their secrets. I may not really know Caden’s secret, but Corey
was the key.
He mostly followed Caden around, dishing orders to the other wolves and Feeders, like a leader. I believe he was close enough to give me what I wanted.
And that night, Fates smiled at me.
Caden left alone, leaving Corey and the rest of his men behind. It wasn’t the first time he was running off at night to get blood. I won’t be surprised if his
urges were worse.
I told Jaris about his dark eyes and got to know it was a sign of a Feeder about to go feral. This made him more dangerous than he’s ever been.
I didn’t have a single time to waste.
I made my way downstairs and asked around until I found Corey. Perfectly, he was in his room alone, smoking a joint.
“Lady Lyric?” He furrowed his brows as he stood up. “Do you need something?”
I’d be surprised to find me here too. For the past six months, I’d never been to any of the men’s rooms.
“I do. I just need us to talk.” I kept my voice as harmless as possible as I closed the door behind me.

Despite them knowing I was a Siphon, Caden’s men never had any fear because they were so sure I wouldn’t dare harm them. trapped by Caden, and well, until yesterday, that was true. I wouldn’t have been crazy enough to hurt any of them without an offense.
But now, I was on the verge of finding the one weapon that could put Caden away.
“Well, what do you need?” Corey asked as he put his joint away.
He was a good–looking man. Quite unfortunate he had the heart of a monster. I’ve seen him derive joy from killing people.
I went closer, pretending to only need to cover some space between us for a private conversation.

“I need your help, Corey.”
His guard was down enough, the distance between us gone.
My hand shot out in the blink of an eye, clutching his wrist. His eyes widened with awareness, but it was too late. It was always too late for them.
“Lyric…” He choked, dropping to his knees.
I locked my eyes on his as I focused on his brain. That should do it.
“You have very limited time to give me what I want, Corey. Where is Greta?”
Knowing he couldn’t speak in this state, I released my hold on his brain a little, just enough to get air flowing back in and too little for him to get back on his feet.
“You don’t have much time.”
“I don’t know!” He rasped out. “I don’t know anything about Greta.”
I clicked my tongue, shaking my head at him. “Wrong answer, Corey.”
He grunted in pain when I made his brain burn again.
“Please! Caden doesn’t take me everywhere! I don’t know!” He had spittle dropping from his mouth, his chest wheezing.
Was it possible he didn’t know?
“I’m afraid that’s not good enough to redeem yourself, Corey. You have one more chance; who’s Caden’s ally from the other side?”
I didn’t even know why, I felt whoever helped him must be from the other side. Maybe it had to do with him knowing Jaris was in Singapura. Someone from Jaris‘ side must’ve told him.
Corey hesitated to answer my question, and that was how I knew I’d gotten him.
“Lyric, plea- Ugh!” His words bled into grunts.
What I did to him was one of the worst kinds of siphoning. I kept siphoning and un–siphoning his brain. The feeling was similar to someone being trapped under water and breaking out to the surface every five seconds for a brief breath of relief.
“Who is it?” I yelled in his face.
Blood rolled out of his eyes before the name finally left his lips.
“Marta!”
My heart froze in silence.
“What did you…What did you say?” I didn’t want to believe I heard him correctly. “Marta Monroe?”
What the hell!?
“Yes. Yes, please. It’s been her, I swear. She’s been feeding Caden information.”
I was shocked to the bone, It affected me so much I didn’t let go of Corey’s hand until it was too late. Until he choked to his death and dropped to the
floor.
Even then, I barely felt a thing and only stepped away from his body. How could Marta have been feeding Caden Information when he was Jaris‘ enemy? Did she have no reasoning?

My head ached. How do I tell Jaris about this? If he confronted Marta and she turned out to be Caden’s ally, she was definitely going to want to get back at me. What if she decides to use Xyla’s secret against me?
