I didn’t exactly know how to feel about Bianca getting Jaris involved.
Caden was left unconscious at her place, and there was no doubt it was going to rain fire and brimstone when he regained consciousness. This changes the whole game,
Of course, Bianca had to leave the house. She was going to be on Caden’s hit list when he woke up.
A part of me was relieved I’d been saved by Jaris. Even though he didn’t have our memories, he still deemed me important. But to what end, I thought? Caden and I were mated. I was afraid Jaris would hate me if he got to know.
After his angry words at me when we arrived, I let him be for sometimes. Well, majorly because I also needed the space.
His words made me feel too guilty to even think I’d done it for the good of anyone. Maybe I should’ve fought Caden a little bit harder.
But what could I have done when the world was crumbling and everyone needed their King? What could I have done when even Kael saw me as the problem?
My steps were relaxed as I approached the room he was in. As much as I was skeptical about being around him, there were important things we needed to tackle and time was definitely not on our side.
He was dusting the windows and pretended not to notice me.
“Jaris,” my voice was small and unsure.
How much I’ve missed calling him by his name.
He gave me a careless glance before returning his attention to the window.
“I’m-”
“If you’re here to apologize, don’t. I don’t need it.” There was a rough edge to his voice.
I gulped down the bitterness.
“Actually, there’s something you need to know.”
He finally gave me listening ears and I told him everything Ericka told me about the antidote. I kept the part that involved his brother and I being mates,
of course.
He was as shocked and displeased as I expected him to be.
“I thought she left,” he mumbled.
He was seated on the edge of the bed while I leaned against the wall. Although, I’d very much love to sit beside him. Ljust didn’t know if he’d want that.
“Greta was a peaceful girl who wasn’t used to chaos, and my family was full of them. I thought she couldn’t handle the heat and left.”
So, Greta was the first siphon in Darkspire. Luckily for her, she was able to keep it hidden enough to get away with it.
“We think Caden must’ve had help keeping her. Unless she’s been free the whole time and chose to be with him.”
“That’s unlikely,” he said the same thing Ericka did.

But let’s say she’s been forcefully held against her will, why hadn’t she been able to escape? Maybe siphon them or something?
“I think… if we could know who this person is, we’ll find Greta. Her blood could be used on Caden to imprison him again.” And this time, I’d be sure not to Siphon him again.
The thought of helping Jaris‘ fated mate irked me. But this was important to me, Caden and I still had a deal between us. The only way to break free from it without losing my life was if he lost his. Or was imprisoned at least.
If he was gone, there would be no one for me to honour. So, it was extremely important we find whoever this person was.

That situation where you had what it took to end them but instead, decide to give them a chance to stay away and they fuck you up? That utter feeling of madness?
That was what Caden Dreadmoor felt as he stormed into the building.
He’d tried so hard to give his brother a chance to steer clear his path. He didn’t try to kill him or imprison him even if he had done the same to him for five
years.
He could’ve easily kept him imprisoned while he took over the werewolf world. Instead, he simply caused a split, leaving more than half for him to rule.
He tried–tried so fucking hard–to get him to stay away. But, Jaris had proven to him he’d always be a pain in the ass.
Coming to his territory to assault him and take Lyric away? That was just as much as he could take.
He walked into the living room and met who he came for. Well, not really who he came for. But she had the job done already.
“Is that it?” He had his eyes on the tiny tube in her hand. The blood was there.
“Yes,” she hissed. “I told you, there was no need coming here. Someone could easily see you. Drawing the blood from her wasn’t an issue!”
Caden ignored her rants as he went ahead to take the blood. Greta’s blood.
“Are you really poisoning him again?”
“Yes.”
“Seriously? And what’s the whole point?”
“He came to my territory, took my girl,” he tsked. “He’s not getting away with it.”
“Well, why don’t you just take out Lyric? She seems to be the problem.”
Caden scoffed at her.
“Look, I’m not comfortable with this, okay? I’ve been helping you for years. Don’t you think my opinion should count? I don’t want Jari–isoned!”
“I’m not killing him, Marta. Why don’t you take a breath?”
Marta did. Except it did nothing to stop the unease gnawing at her stomach.
“This is why we have the blood. After he’s poisoned and I get Lyric away from him, I’ll give him the antidote. He’ll be fine and home to you.
For some reason, Marta didn’t believe him this time.

Caden forced his eyes to soften on her. “I do not take your help for granted, Marta. You’ve been making things a lot easier for me.” His lips lifted in a smirk. “Remember the kids? How easy you made it for me to abduct them back then?”
A scowl settled on her face.
“I won’t forget your help so far.”
He handed the bottle to her. “Make sure this gets to your grandmother. I need the antidote prepared as soon as possible.”
Marta remained silent as he headed out.
