The slow drum rolled faster.
This wasn’t something that could wait. I go to bed every night, hoping I get this text soon.
I looked around, looking for a quiet place and found one under a big tree. There were less people there.
I went over and quickly dialed the line.
Eight months ago, if someone had told me this very person and I would work together on something, I would’ve doubted it.
I was curious about the antidote Caden had used to revive Jaris. Fine, he said I couldn’t Siphon him because the poison had been made with my blood. Even that was confusing because I thought I should be able to siphon anyone, irrespective of the source of the poison.
Then, the more complex one was the antidote. I was curious to know which antidote was strong enough to bypass the power of a Siphon’s blood. I wanted to know how Caden got something that powerful.
I’d managed to get the empty syringe he’d injected Jaris with. I guess the monster didn’t care about the syringe because he didn’t expect me to want to do a research.
The syringe was almost empty with just a very tiny part left in it. I didn’t have what it took to make the research myself. So, I had to ask for help. And ‘she‘ was the only person I could think of.
“Lyric,” her voice was cold, almost lazy.
“Hi. I got your text. Took you so long, Ericka.”
She scoffed. “You should be thankful you even got a response from me. If this didn’t have to do with Jaris, believe me, we wouldn’t be talking right now”
I rolled my eyes. I wasn’t surprised at the hostility. We knew each other from a point where we always had arguments.
Ericka was the girl I’d met at the cabin Jaris had gone to when he had issues controlling his beast. She was a Healer who was trying to help him, but well, I didn’t feel comfortable with her especially when Lheard her call him ‘baby‘. She didn’t like me either because I was in a position she and so many others wished they could be in–being Jaris‘ woman.
But we had one thing in common–helping Jaris. Which was the reason she agreed to help me when I took the antidote to her months ago.
“You said you’ve worked out the source. What is it?”
“Well, it’s actually insane. It was made from the blood of a Siphon.”
My brows furrowed in confusion.
“A Siphon? That isn’t possible. I told you I wasn’t able to siphon him. Could another poison have been able to heal him simply because the poison was made from my blood alone?”
“No. As a matter of fact, when a person gets poisoned with the blood of a Siphon, they’re meant to be dead. In an instant. But in the cases of Jaris and his brother who can hardly be killed, it sends them into an unconscious form–leaving them trapped in a deep endless sleep.”
“The only way they get to regain consciousness was if their fated mate was a Siphon and got involved. Her blood would be the antidote. Or if she could even lay hands on him, she’d siphon him directly.”
My head was spinning.
“Wait, I’m getting confused here. From the look of things, it’s seeming like I did it. I mean, I’m Janis‘ mate and also a Siphon. But I didn’t I told you

“It wasn’t you, Lyric,” she cut me off. “I said ‘fated‘ mate. Not chosen mate. Caden had help from Jaris‘ fated mate.”
My world spun in an instant, the truth slamming into me and overwhelming my senses.
Jaris had a fated mate? How was that possible?
“He’s never… he’s never had a mate before me,” I muttered.
Jaris never got mated to anyone before me. He’d have mentioned it. Plus, if he had one, I was sure she wouldn’t team up with Caden to harm her fated mate for no reason.
Confusion threatened to make me mad.
“Actually, there is something else…” Ericka was speaking when I suddenly felt some people coming toward me.
I lifted my eyes and immediately, all of Ericka’s words fell on deaf ears. My phone dropped from my ear as fear sent my body into a state of shock.
Right in front of me were guards from the Capital. They weren’t just around; they were coming right towards me.
I ended the call without thinking, slipped the phone into my pocket and quickly turned away to leave. Maybe i was mistaken and they actually weren’t here for me.
But who was I kidding? Right as I turned, there was another set of guards, already close to me.
My heart kicked into panic, starting to race too fast. The guards had closed in on me now. I was trapped!
“H–Have I done something?” I tried to speak in a quiet voice, intending to mask my femininity.
I was disguised as a man in a way that wasn’t suspicious. My long hair was wrapped up and covered in my hoodie, I had impressive beards and a moustache, and I wore baggy jeans and oversized sweatshirts to hide my shape and boobs. I, in no way, looked like a woman.
So, why would they just come for me like I did something wrong?
One of them addressed me. “We have orders to seize you, sir. You’ll need to come with us to the Capital Pack House.”
My throat got clogged. I had to force down a heavy swallow to be able to speak again.
“Whose order are you on acting on? You must have the wrong person. I’m even new around here.”
Shit. Wrong move.
“You’ll understand better when we get there. Grab him.”
Two strong arms grabbed mine before I could do anything. Worst of it, Levuldn’t even use my powers as we were in public and there were fod may even on us. It’d be difficult getting away if everyone knew I was a threat.

I was thrown into the van where I had nothing to help me. Where all I could do was wait and wonder which of the two brothers would get to kill me first.
I was pulled out of the van and forced to walk in a direction I couldn’t see. The blindfold was still on, my wrists still chained. So, I didn’t know a single thing about where we were.
I felt the moment we entered what seemed like a room. I wasn’t prepared for the shove the guards gave that pushed me to my knees.
“He’s here, your Highness.”
Something stopped working in my chest. Must be my heart since it felt like I was dying.
It was Jaris. They really did bring me to him.
